Mary Robinette Kowal’s Forest of Memory is a short story about a woman who deals in authenticities. Her clients pay a premium for provenance of occurrences. She finds herself in the woods and is ‘taken’ by a man doing something with the animals. She is cut off from the grid and her AI assistant. Her time in captivity becomes a surreal experience that she has no way of confirming.

The narration is good with decent, but limited character distinction. Pacing is smooth.

Very good as far as it goes. The story is set up to be excruciatingly detailed, And sometimes that causes it to feel a little slow. Ends on an ambiguity.

Intriguing, couldn't guess what was gonna happen next or how it was gonna end. I'll be thinking about this story for a long time.
