When Reality combines with the Supernatural inside each of us

This book is easily one of Brandon Mull’s master pieces. In a story I wouldn’t have any issues reading to my children (until things get intense about half way through) Brandon brilliantly combines the “natural law and order” from this physical realm we all inhabit consciously, and begins to introduce to ideas, concepts, and potential advantages (magic powers of course!) of being in-tune with the Spiritual, indeed, with the Guardian we each have available to us readily available to assist and guide.
This book takes a close - almost philosophical - look at what happens when our trust is put in things or people who don’t have our best interest at heart, even if they profess otherwise.
I’d add mild caution to some of the battle scenes and descriptions - they’re not as intense as the Way of Kings or Mistborn (by Brandon Sanderson), but definitely strays into more intense concepts and dark details when discussing what the villains are/can do. If a kid/teen has never heard of or doesn’t understand spiritual gifts - Light or Dark in nature, it could be a bit scarring. It’s not until near the end you start seeing just how depraved the evil in this world is, and that it’s not just present, but growing.
The voice acting is incredible. Just need to throw that out there as well. Fabulous performance!

Overall - HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Mature teens will love it and only mild editing would be needed to read it to my kids (3-7yrs old) as a bedtime or “learning to read” story.

So many challenges for the characters

I love books written by Brandon Mull. This one seems to be the first of a series because there were so many challenges for the characters in the book, with no resolutions. If I had the next book ready to read, I might have rated this higher
