My new favorite sci-fi!

I am an avid sci-fi and fantasy listener and fairly picky about what/who I listen to. In the last 3 years I’ve happily discovered Craig Alanson’s worlds as well as lots of other great work like the Omega Force books. But I can categorically state no other author’s ideas have grabbed me like Marc Stevens’. His AI isn’t quirky or hostile, but instead a deep character. His alien’s are more genuinely other than most authors while being diverse AND they are written deeply enough to be accessible rather than just plain weird—and characters within each race are well differentiated. His situations are crazy and full of action. His outcomes don’t lead to much despair, so pleasantly unrealistic concerning friendly battle losses. His hero is a wonderfully flawed and frustrated young human male. His heroine is vastly the hero’s superior in maturity and intellect. Their foil is her equal but duplicitous and inscrutable. Their team, allies and to a lesser extent enemies are a rich milieu of personalities, cultures, motives and ethics that just works. As narrator, Ramon does a good job overall and earns full marks. While not the very best on Audible, he certainly is in the top 5% in the genre. Highly recommended!

Our MCs are all jerks

The main point of this series seems to be setting up situations where our main characters can engage in brutal, bloody, carnage. It gets old after a while. And while our MCs are supposedly engaging in a noble cause, they enjoy murder far too much to reflect healthy personalities. People in real life will sometimes do what's necessary to protect the innocent, but they generally don't take great pleasure in committing violence against other human beings.

Other than delight in violence, our MC doesn't show much else in the way of personality, nor do any of the other supporting characters. Not only do I fail to like them, I actively dislike them. I'd kinda like to see where the story arc goes, but not enough to spend any more time with these characters.

I really enjoyed it.

Don't miss this series, it's fantastic!! The narration was pulled you right into the book, Ramon De Ocampo did a incredible job. Marc Stevens is becoming my favorite sci-fi writer, thank you for this book.

Great book Piss poor narrator

Take the time and get this book from the kindle store and read it for yourself. I like this story, the worlds, the politics and how things are heading. Is it perfect, no but it was a very entertaining read.

But please safe your ear drums and skip the audio book.

Top notch story and narration

Yes, it can be a bit long winded at times but if that's your thing, read David Weber, he's a past master at it and Marc Stevens is a learner by comparison.

putting that aside, this story arc is terrific and has excellent narration.

A few words here and there are used incorrectly but that seems to be a theme with Ebooks these days. I suppose it's too much to ask an author to use proper word checks instead of the rather stupid autocorrect.

Once again an enjoyable audio with names and places becoming clearer an enabling me not to waste time trying to figure out how to pronounce them. Great story excellent audio production and l look forward to reading and listening to the next book in the series.
