Great story killed by terrbile narrator

I have been a Dale Brown fan for years and read pretty much everything he wrote as it was published in hardcover. Now I listen to audiobooks to while away the time on my long weekly drives. I loved this book when I read it years ago, and was looking forward to hearing it, and maybe getting a slightly different experience through the narration, as often happens with a really good narrator. But this narrator is the worst I have ever heard. He speaks way too fast, uses a monotone no matter what is happening in the story and all his characters sound alike. When he really tries to portray a different ethnicity his Russian sounds like a Japanese character out of a bad WWII movie. This is my first review ever, and after just finishing Clancy's Dead or Alive read by Lou Diamind Philips (a fantastic narrator) listening to Richard Allen was like getting my wisdom teeth pulled. Never again. Save your money. Listening to this was truly awful. Thank god it was short.

Great book , audio seriously abbridged

it's a great book, and the audio is great for what it covers. however so much was left out that the meat of the story kind of falls apart.

Not as advertised. SERIOUSLY ABRIDGED.

The ad copy for this audiobook says nothing about it being abridged, but it is SERIOUSLY ABRIDGED. It only took about 5 minutes for me to realize how bad it was. I called Audible to ask about it. They are aware it is abridged. I didn’t ask them why they don’t mention that in the description. I did ask for a refund. They refused to do so. Hopefully others will do before purchasing what I did afterwards, which is check the reviews. Looks like many others have had the same experience as I did.

Terrible customer service by Audible. They misleadingly and apparently knowing omit a vital piece of information from the description of the audiobook, and then refuse to refund me for their mistake. Be cautious, everyone.

original book great abridged audio book bad

I have read the original novel and it is great. this audiobook is clearly abridged and they cut out all the parts that center around the main character. if you are pushing poorly abridged and poorly read audio books at least have the sense to label it abridged.

Horribly Abridged

This version leaves out so much with regards to plot and character development that it’s nearly impossible to understand.

Not what I expected…

This was my first abridged audio book, and I have read and thoroughly enjoyed the paper version of Flight of The Old Dog many years ago; so perhaps my expectations were too high. This version cut so much out of the story it was like an amazing novel was rewritten as a made for tv movie. Much of the nuance of the political and international events were totally missing, as was much of the detail of the aviation portion of the book, the air warfare, and the interpersonal relations between the characters. Character development was nearly nonexistent. These missing parts were some of what made the written version so good, and were some of the authors greatest strengths. I was really disappointed by the abridged audio version unfortunately, but would wholeheartedly recommend the written book.

The narrator did a good job and had an enjoyable voice, but the changes to the story were just too much for me.
