Publisher's Summary

Number-one best-selling author Patricia Cornwell delivers the next enthralling thriller in her high-stakes series starring Kay Scarpetta - a complex tale involving a serial sniper who strikes chillingly close to the forensic sleuth herself.

It's Chief Medical Examiner Dr Kay Scarpetta's birthday, and while she's enjoying a leisurely morning, a man is shot dead five minutes from her house. The bullet tore through him as he unloaded groceries from his car. Yet nobody heard or saw a thing.

It looks like the work of a serial sniper - one who leaves no trace except for tiny copper fragments, and whose seemingly impossible shots cause instant death. As Scarpetta investigates, uncovering details that only she can analyze, she begins to suspect that the killer is sending her a message.

Adding to Scarpetta's growing unease is the sense that those closest to her are keeping secrets. And when her pursuit of the sniper takes Scarpetta to a shipwreck off the Florida coast, she comes face to face with shocking evidence that implicates her niece Lucy - Scarpetta's very own flesh and blood…

Hit and then it hit the floor

I am a Scarpetta fan and found this audio book a good listen. Great narration, with authentic accents and distinguishable character voices, which are always a pleasure. I found the storyline very credible and interesting.

The only flaw for me was a eager sudden and flat ending. I realize the intended purpose of it, bout found it to be a rather bland ending to an otherwise rise momentum-building story.

Travelogue not Crime Thriller

I have gone back to reading Patricia Cornwell after quite a break.
This book was so disappointing
All street names and places
I had to listen to the end twice to make sure I had the ending correct

Getting too smug

Shame, but our heroine is getting far too self satisfied and her views on Benton and Lucy now read like the most boastful type of family reports tucked into Christmas cards.

Another great thriller from PC

This story was good like most of Patricia Cornwell's stories. The characters are like comfy slippers that just feel right when you put them back on. Good storyline really well read by a easy to listen to narrator. However the finish felt separate from the rest of the story almost like it could have come anywhere in the story. Still very enjoyable.

Good story, bad narration

Compelling story if rather implausible towards the end. Main problem is narration - distractingly irritating

BRILLIANT!!

I really enjoyed this, it was nice to catch up the past, I often wondered what happened to people and there's so much she could still do.

For a while I really started to worry about Lucy lol .........I'll say no more in case of spoilers, can't wait for the next one.

Love the performance from the reader too she really brings the whole thing to life in a great way.......excellent!!!!!

A bit disappointing

If you could sum up Flesh and Blood in three words, what would they be?

Gripping, confusing, disappointing.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting aspect of the story was the mystery surrounding Lucy, however unless you had read the preceding novels this would be difficult to understand.

What about Lorelei King’s performance did you like?

I love Lorelei King as a narrator, she really is one of the best. She gives each characters voice such distinct quirks its impossible to get the characters confused. She did a fantastic job of voicing this audiobook.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

This is not a book to be turned into a film, it wouldn't sell sadly compared to Cromwell's other Scarpetta novels it is a bit of a let down.

Any additional comments?

The ending still left the reader with many unanswered questions when the book finished my immediate reaction was 'is that it'? it felt half finished and i suspect this is a ploy by the author who knows she has a hooked readership to sell more books in the future.

Not her best

Not her best story line and the narrator voice does get a bit drone. I love these stories generally a d I have read most of them
