Honor Harrington has been offered a chance to reclaim her career as an officer of the Royal Manticoran Navy. But there's a catch. Story
It's hard to give peace a chance when the other side regards conquest as the only option and a sneak attack as the best means to that end. That's why the Kingdom of Manticore needs allies against the Republic of Haven, and the planet Grayson is strategically situated to make a very good ally indeed. But Her Majesty’s Foreign Office overlooked a “minor cultural difference” when they chose Honor Harrington to carry the flag: women on the planet of Grayson are without rank or rights and Honor’s mere presence is an intolerable affront to every male on the planet.

No one wanted another war. Thomas Theisman didn't. Not after risking his life to overthrow the Committee of Public Safety's reign of terror and restore the Republic of Haven's ancient Constitution. Baron High Ridge didn't. The Prime Minister of Manticore was perfectly happy with the war he had. No one was shooting anyone else at the moment, and his government could continue to milk all those "hostilities only" tax measures for their own partisan projects.

The Solarian League's navy counts its superdreadnoughts by the thousands. Not even its own government knows how enormous its economy truly is. And for hundreds of years, the League has borne the banner of human civilization, been the ideal to which humanity aspires in its diaspora across the galaxy. But the bureaucrats known as the "Mandarins," who rule today's League, are not the men and women who founded it so long ago. They are corrupt, venal, accountable to no one...and they've decided the upstart Star Kingdom of Manticore must be destroyed.

There are two sides to any quarrel... unless there are more. Queen Elizabeth of Manticore's first cousin and Honor Harrington's best friend Michelle Henke has just handed the "invincible" Solarian League Navy the most humiliating, one-sided defeat in its entire almost thousand-year history in defense of the people of the Star Empire's Talbott Quadrant. Imperial Intelligence couldn't find them, the Imperial Fleet couldn't catch them, and local defenses couldn't stop them. It seemed the planet-wrecking pirates were invincible. But they made a big mistake when they raided ex-commando leader Alicia DeVries' quiet home/work, tortured and murdered her family, and then left her for dead. Alicia decided to turn "pirate" herself, and stole a cutting-edge AI ship from the empire to start her vendetta. Her fellow veterans think she's gone crazy, the Imperial Fleet has shoot-on-sight orders. And, of course, the pirates want her dead, too.

Sometimes things don't work out exactly as planned. The Mesan Alignment has a plan - one it's been working on for centuries. A plan to remake the galaxy and genetically improve the human race - its way. Until recently things have gone pretty much as scheduled, but then the Alignment hit a minor bump in the road called the Star Empire of Manticore. So the Alignment engineered a war between the Solarian League, the biggest and most formidable interstellar power in human history.

Publisher's Summary
Hounded into retirement and disgrace by political enemies, cut to the heart by the murder of the man she loved, and bereft of confidence in herself and her abilities, Captain Honor Harrington has retreated to the planet Grayson to take up her role as Steadholder while she tries to heal her bitter wounds.
But the People's Republic of Haven is rising from defeat to threaten Grayson anew, and the newborn Grayson Navy needs her experience desperately. It's a call Honor cannot refuse, yet even as she once more accepts the duty whose challenges she fears she can no longer meet, powerful men who hate and fear the changes she's brought to their world are determined to reverse them. They have a plan ... and for it to succeed Honor Harrington must die.
Two irresistible forces are rushing together to crush Grayson between them, and only one woman uncertain of her capabilities, weary unto death, and marked for murder-stands between her adopted planet and its devastation.
A Note from Author David Weber
There's been some confusion—not to say, um, energetic debate, readers and fans being readers and fans—about the correct pronunciation of "Manticoran." The truth, alas, is that a stitch was dropped. An error occurred. A mistake was made… and it wasn't Audible's fault. It was mine. Before Audible recorded the very first Honor Harrington book, narrator Allyson Johnson and I not only corresponded by e-mail but actually spoke to one another by phone. She wanted to make absolutely certain she had the correct pronunciations for names, places, star nations, etc., and I tried to make certain all of her questions were answered. And so they were. Unfortunately, at some point in the process, I replied to one of her e-mails by telling her that "Man-ti-core-ahn" was pronounced "Man-tik-er-ahn." Exactly how this happened is more than I can say at this point, except to blushingly disclose that the original e-mail remains intact, confirming to all the world that it was, indeed, my fault. I can ascribe it only to a temporary mental hiccup on my part and crave your forgiveness. If, however, you must blame someone for the mix-up, that someone should be me and not Audible, who have done everything they could to get it right.

Flag in Exile
This is the fourth book in the series and I am sure glad I have listen to them in order. It makes it so much more enjoyable. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series. Can hard wait to start the next one. The story provides fast pace excellent description of battle scenes. The back stabbing of politics and a view of various societies. Allyson Johnson is Honor Harrington, the book would not be as good without her reading.

Honor Harrington Universe Book 5
"Lemons and Lemonade "
House of Lords voted to exclude countess Harrington, and used it's political power to ruin her career, despite House of Commons support she was beached, put on half pay, her ship (NIKE) was passed on.
Instead of sitting and waiting for new assignment, which probably would never come, she decided to take care of business on Grayson, her Stadthold is growing, her investment was good, but you can't change everyone on the planet in just a few years.
It is not very far from "religious fanatic" to "terrorist".
The War continues, revolution in Peoples Republic of Heaven(PRH) doesn't' help the case, though the government policy changed, it's still singing the same tune, obvious reference to USSR and People Republic of China .
11 Prize Super Dreadnoughts given as a gift to Grayson by Admiral Alexander are almost fixed, PRH is getting ready for new offensive.
Grayson's understand, when god gives you lemons, you need to make Lemonade.
So they offered Grayson Space Navy (GSN) commission to the most experienced officer in the star system.
The next book in the series is "Honor among Enemies"

Weber does it again
Another in the series about Honor Harrington. To understand the full series, you need to start with On Basilisk Station and follow tem from there. The story is well written, like all David Weber books (for true space opera/naval battles try "The Shiva Option/In Death Ground"). I have yet to be disappointed with a David Weber book, his characters are well developed and rarely do you find anything disconnected. Highly recommended series.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I've read and enjoyed all the previous ones, and I was so engrossed by this one that maybe it is the best one yet. There is a good balance of space and non-space activity, and once again the narrator delivers a fine performance.

Flag in Exile
What made the experience of listening to Flag in Exile the most enjoyable?
The Narrator has good voice and the pacing is excellent. The voice and accent differentiation are very well done. The story lack some os the emotional depth of other books inthis series but is still very well worth reading. The climax is well done. However the winding up of the story is chopped and lacks some of the finer finishing touchs generallhy found in this author.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Flag in Exile?
The sword fight was built up to an excellent final moment. The Space battle was rather ordinary given how many battle have been fought in this seris.
Which scene was your favorite?
There were no outstanding moments as the story unfolded in the authors usual manner with no surprises and with little being added to the character. The building of the Havenite Theisman was one of the better moves.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
A film could not be made from this book as it is not stand alone.

The story continues
The Honor Harrington story continues and I feel Mr. Weber has firmly hit his stride with this book.
I enjoyed the previous books very much, but this one has the feel of a book where the author is at the helm and in every sentence and on every page, he just tells you to fasten your seat belt and hang on (if you can).
Mr. Weber, through his masterful story construction wrings out every human emotion possible, relentlessly, but it only made me hungry to plunge into the next books.
In previous reviews I've read criticism of Ms. Johnson's narration, well, to me, she is simply superlative, her style and her charactarisations add a dimension to the book that is hard to quantify but are the icing on the cake.

Another excellent Honor Harrington book
If you could sum up Flag in Exile in three words, what would they be?
Exiting, Devastating, Satisfying
What was one of the most memorable moments of Flag in Exile?
I dont want to post spoilers but it takes you on a ride of emotions from one particularly devastating moment that brought me to tears to satisfaction in retribution. I dont believe in an eye for an eye in real life but there's something satisfying about it in stories.
What about Allyson Johnson’s performance did you like?
She reads well and helps to convey who is who as well as bring the emotion across as well.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If I had the time to listen from start to finish I would have done!
Any additional comments?
The Honor books are well written, exiting books and every one so far has not failed to grab me. At its core this is a story about religious fanaticism and how far these zealots will go and the prices they are prepared to pay to follow what they wrongly believe is a path of righteousness. Its about how they will make every excuse in the book to justify the wrongs they do.
