Acerca de esta escucha
Called to investigate an ancient secret long kept buried by the church, the Bishop of Bamberg is found brutally murdered, tortured to death by medieval means. His nephew, Lukas - a young Jesuit priest living in Rome - is summoned by the superior general of his order for a special mission: retrieve a cache of long-hidden documents that could rock Christianity to its core.
When the superior general is murdered, Lukas becomes the prime suspect as well as the killer's next target. Pursued by the police and the sadistic murderer, Lukas sets out across Italy with his onetime lover, the fiery journalist Rabea, to retrieve the mysterious documents. As the stakes get higher and the smoldering tension between Lukas and Rabea builds, the two begin to uncover a secret war that has been waged in the shadows of the church for centuries - and if they can't expose it, they may become its next casualties.

The letter, from her deceased mother, describes a dire set of occurrences on the banks of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. It was stolen from a New Orleans grave - the centuries-old bust of an evil man, a demonic man. It’s an object desired by collectors - and by those with wickedness in their hearts. One day, its current owner shows up at Danni Cafferty’s antiques shop on Royal Street, the shop she inherited from her father. But before Danni can buy the statue, it disappears, the owner is found dead…and Danni discovers that she’s inherited much more than she realized. In the store is a book filled with secret writing: instructions for defeating evil entities. She’d dismissed it as a curiosity...until the arrival of this statue.

Good mystery but too preachy at times
Easy to get into with good reader. But there are long passages where it felt that the author is preaching.

While, for me, there were a few very good page turning areas in the book it was not of consistent interest. I hated the ending. Some areas bogged down or appeared disjointed or presented in a sequence I found frustrating. Some characters were well developed while others seemed left to our imagination.
Emily Sutton-Smith performance was outstanding and the only reason I finished the book
