Publisher's Summary

Harlow Bevans was a changeling mermaid working as a diving consultant for the Earthen Conclave. Then he came along. Charybdis. A serial killer who possessed her body and wrecked her mind. Now she's an inmate - patient - at Edelweiss Mental Institution. When a haunting song lures her to the scene of a brutal murder, the calm of the past few months is shattered. A fellow patient is dead, and Harlow is caught standing over his body by a mysterious guard who hides his own secrets behind a pair of aviator sunglasses her fingers itch to remove. Unwilling to be a pawn in another psychopath's game, Harlow sets out to discover the real killer. What she uncovers makes her a prime target, and the next song she hears could be her last. Curiosity may not have killed the cat, but it just might fillet the mermaid.

Harlow's story wasn't what I expected

Harlow's story was different than I expected. But the story was enjoyable. I'm glad she got her own book for us to get to know her better. I hope there are more books to come for Harlow.
I'm still very Disappointed in audible that there is no whispersync for "INCLUDED" books with kindle unlimited copy. This makes my preferred method of reading along difficult. This narrator does a good job and the whole story is told from Harlow's perspective. So no unannounced character jumping to be confusing if you multi task while listen to audio book like me. I mainly listen on the elliptical tread mill or while cooking. This one would be okay as audio alone.

Quick listen

I am hoping that the author forgot that she made H a 16 year old girl in this series, otherwise she just condoned a relationship between a man and a child. Unless I'm mistaken, this is illegal and nothing that should be glamorized. I can't be okay with that, even a little bit, so I had to deduct stars. Without that aspect the story was okay. It gave a little glimpse inside the world of the institution, almost like introducing a new aspect of the series.

The mystery was a little convoluted at the reveal, the story didn't quite add up.

Too short

Beautiful love story, but with the right amount of terror for its length. I sort of liked the hint and your option to complete it yourself. Thumbs up.
Stephanie Einstein was great for this book.

Fish Out of Water

This is a lovely love story run off from the others, with the changeling helping to find the killer AND fight the supernaturals. Read brilliantly again by Stephanie Einstein.
