Publisher's Summary

The fifth original novel from the much-loved space western Firefly, produced with Joss Whedon as consulting editor, set between the TV series and the movie Serenity.

Deadly disease

Months after Inara leaves Serenity, Mal and the crew finally learn the reason for her sudden departure: She is dying of a terminal illness. It is Kiehl’s Myeloma, a form of cancer that’s supposedly incurable, and Inara has very little time left.

A disreputable scientist

Through their shock and despair, rumors of a cure reach the crew. Expert Esau Weng is said to have developed a means to treat Inara’s condition, but he has been disgraced and incarcerated for life on a notorious Alliance prison planet.

An infamous prison

On Atata planet, inmates are abandoned with no guards and left to survive as best they can. What’s more, terraforming the planet did not take properly, so the world is a frozen wasteland. To save Inara, the Serenity crew must infiltrate the prison....

Can't get enough!

I just absolutely love these characters and cannot get enough of them. I love one of them so much just hearing she was tearing up, got me crying and completely invested in the story.

Mighty Fine

This book is a mighty fine continuation of the Firefly series of novels. The author is good and so is the reader.

Perfect

This whole series is phenomenal. The voices are right, the characters are right, the story is right, and I couldn’t be any more pleased as a fan of the show and film to have these books as a part of the world.

Strong Follow up to a much loved story

Firefly is hope. it's gritty, violent, while also being tender and surprising. 5/5 uplifting. superlatives are failing me. I feel like Jane, the big, grumpy, meathead Mercenary. just listen. it's good work.

perfect narration for a perfect Firefly story

I miss the show, even now after so many years. these books have brought all the characters back to life just as I remember them. The narration is perfect.

The characters ring true

This felt to me like another episode of the Firefly series. A pleasant farfetched story of our lovable friends, complete with Mal knowing the risks, and still attempting the impossible. of course he would do anything for Inara ...

Good stuff

Everything except the kiss was great. It's hard to connect the story to being part of the normal TV show, but it fits well enough.

Love Firefly - Hated one section of the book

I am a big fan of Firefly, and I thought that the story line and the interaction of the main characters was spot on.. I was so disappointed to find the chapter with the wolves and rabbit. It was so graphic and horrible, I do not think this kind of violence was in the series *before* . The story was great there was no need for the graphic bloodlust, overall it weakened the strength of the book for me, as if the writer did not have confidence in his story without *spicing it up*

firefly at its best

Action-packed with colourful back-stories and character development. Shame the narrator repeatedly misses the correct emphasis

Excellent

Excellent book. I was hoping for more with the ending, it felt a little rushed for my liking. However, still a great read in any case.

Always great to get back in the verce!

As these characters were cut short on TV, this leaves a great deal of development, worlds and stories to explore - this is one of them!

Give the sense that the film isn't that far away in the timeline, still this is as shiny as they come. more of the Goram same please.....!

Enjoyable

The story got a bit bogged down halfway through so I skipped through a few chapters of snow and survival. Really enjoyed River's spaceship part in the mission.

Firefly fan

It’s was fabulous. It felt like I was watching the one of the episodes in this series.
A shame it never continued…

The voice actor did a superb job of creating the characters and atmosphere. As a “firefly fan” I loved listening to this.

Thanks
