Publisher's summary

The former career of Captain Ike Smith, a retired fire investigator, exposed him to the dreadful human beings inhabiting the world of arson...a group of people he does not miss. Since retiring, he has been chasing his new passion and career as a charter boat captain, pulling kayak fishermen out for a weekend of fishing and fun on Tampa Bay in Florida.

However, a call from an old supervisor unexpectedly pulls Ike back into the life he thought he had left far behind.

During his investigation of a burned, sunken boat, he determines an old cop friend of his may be involved in arson, as well as drug trafficking. In what ensues, life-threatening danger becomes not only Ike’s constant companion, but also the companion to those around him, as a cartel boss vows to kill him and those close to him. If Ike can only somehow avoid his enemies, his reward will be a life with the woman he loves.

Great book!

I discovered this author from his many exploits with fellow YouTuber, Marty Zoffinger. I was excited to learn he had written a book and was even more excited to hear it was going to be narrated. As soon as the audiobook was available, I purchased it. I was not disappointed in the least. The story was fun and intriguing. Joseph Earl Johnson does a fantastic job with the narration, very pleasant and easy listening voice. The hours flew by as I listened while working my job as a commercial driver. I can't wait for any sequels and will purchase them immediately when available.

Couldn't stop listening!

The narrator brought me into the story and kept me there. Next book when?

Four Hours of Plot

By the end of the book you will know everything Captain Ike has eaten and drank during the story timeline. That leaves the rest for plot which is a good plot. It’s not in your face but this is MAGA light. Two white police officer “righteous” kills of black men result in “political” challenges to their careers. POTUS makes a brief appearance to confirm the need to build the wall. The dialogue flirting is painfully immature. The narrator has a fine voice for two characters but the woman voices sound like mimicking a child. These are the complaints but I did enjoy the plot and it wasn’t too far fetched to be vested in. I liked the Tampa Bay setting and descriptions of the water and harbor and of course every restaurant and menu item and alcoholic drink ordered.
