The Void, is reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock or the Twilight Zone of later days.

It will take you deep into the mind and heart of someone either living through a serious mental illness or something mysterious and dangerous resides in the void.

Many years before, Altori and her sister Helen moved into the village. Last year during the night of no moon Helen went out into the void and nearly died. A terrible disease spread through her body. She ran away to escape the possibility of death at the hands of the frightened villagers.

Will Altori survive the void and find her sister? Did Helen ever exist or is Altori suffering from a mental illness?

I was swept into the story. It brought me to places within myself that I didn't know existed, and yet as scary in places as it was, and knowing that Altori, did not feel as if she fit in with those around her, she found at last a place that she did belong.

The narration was brilliant for this story.

POWERFUL STORY

This different and beautifully written story begins with Altori, clinging desperately onto the branches of a tree high above the ground. For her, the village that she and her sister Helen have been forced to live in has always been frightening and unsafe. Still, shivering in the night air, she manages to make it home. There, she finds Helen, her bruised face edging toward ugly welts.

After Helen’s life of cleaning the village outhouses and getting beaten if anything isn’t ‘perfect,’ she has finally decided to escape, without letting her sister know where she is fleeing. Instead, she warns Altori to simply stay safe and tell the villagers who undoubtedly will come a-knocking, she doesn’t know where her sister is and to let life continue on.

But can Altori actually do that? She loves and depends on Helen. It’s horrific without her dear sister.

Then the strangest phenomenon comes to pass––A rare black void that takes over the night sky and with it, some unexplained and eerie issues. What does it all mean? Is Altori ever going to see her sister again? In spite of being confronted with this sudden emptiness, this nothingness, Altori is determined to at least search for Helen, no matter what. But where has Helen gone? She doesn’t have a clue.

Fully enhanced by the excellent narration of R E Lamoeux, touching sibling connections and intense emotions, along with questions about voids and alluring descriptions, this story more than held my attention throughout. Bravo! Highly recommended.
