Publisher's Summary

On paper, it's pretend. But my heart knows what's real.

His proposal came in a little black envelope with 13 unlucky words: You still owe me that favor, doll, and I'm cashing in. Marry me.

In a normal life, I'd never get hitched to Calvin Randolph. Not with his heart-stopping blue eyes, infamous player reputation, and an ego bigger than the part of his anatomy he loves boasting about the most.

Been there, done that. All except the last part, which he's left to my shameful imagination for seven years apart.

Of course, the fake fiancée contract I just signed is anything but normal. Neither was the tragic day our schoolyard romance died, when he made an unspeakable sacrifice.

He saved my life. He paid a terrible price. Now, I owe him big.

He's come to collect in make believe: the blushing lies, the sideways glances leaving me breathless, the teasing kisses every time his teeth grab my bottom lip in front of the world.

It shouldn't be this hard.

It's just pretend. It's just a few weeks. I can totally resist the demanding, cold, obscenely handsome man he's become.

We have our rules. But the simple one I kept to myself might be harder: don't fall in love.

I already did that once. I know the risks. I won't let it happen.

Because if his charm steals my heart again, if I let him go all the way when his lips trace scary promises on mine, this paper engagement becomes real enough to ruin us....

A DISAPPOINTING LISTEN I’M AFRAID

The trouble with a good female narrator is that they totally spoil you for anything less and, when a book’s reader is just so-so or not that great, then they fail to capture your interest, hold your undivided attention, excite you with their vocal nuances, make you swoon with a believable deeper male pitch and entertain you by delivering an enjoyable listen. Unfortunately (for me) this book suffered because of this.. but it wasn’t all on the narration.. no, there were some pretty bad statements, sentences and scenes too which had me skipping, missing and speeding up instead of savouring each dual POV chapter. Even the sex scenes failed to impress and had some pretty bad wording for what should’ve been sexy, sweet and sensual.. in fact, I can’t believe Nicole Snow wrote this.

Worth a credit? This is my thoughts only.. and maybe it’s just because my last few perfect listens have spoiled me for anything less, but for me it’s a NO not worth a credit - and I’ll be asking for mine back.

Couldn't finish

I have listened to all the authors books, but I couldn't finish this book. Irritated me with the unrealistic characters, and a woman who has that much brain power only to become a servant to a jerk.

Ok

Not my favorite story. I didn’t hate it nor did I love it. It was just ok for me. I felt like this story was all over the place. As far as the narration, I had to speed it up because it was read so slowly.

Spoiler alert

Wasted a free listen. I think there were so many impossible situations in this story that made no sense at all. The woman in the story was very annoying. I did not like this one at all

Weak story, dislike the performance

The story is weak, but could have been ok if the narration was different. I don’t like Ellie McClendon’s male voices - they haven’t fully passed puberty yet and sound immature, literally and emotionally. In this genre, an immature male voice is a total turn off, no matter the scene. The story has potential with the story of what happened in their past (even only half knowing what that is), and even some of the present parts of the story, but there are leaps in logic that don’t make sense or can’t be believed or are just too sudden. But with all the little negatives and the narration, I’m giving up on this book a little over half way through. I’m giving this 3 stars only because there really is worse out there, and I think that different narration could have helped save this book.

Feels long, female narration a bit monotone

It feels long. I think it could have done without several of the flashback parts of the story. Or they could have shortened them. It wasn't necessary to have lengthy dialogue in the flashbacks. Of course they may have felt long because the female narration wasn't expressive or interesting. I found myself looking forward to when it woulf change to the male's voice. Also the way the characters spoke to each other wasn't very realistic. So it was hard to believe much of the conversation. It didn't feel like natural conversation at all. All in all it wasn't the worst audible book I've experienced, but it didn't make me look forward to listening time like I enjoy for my books to do. I did end up fast forwarding through a lot of the flashbacks and listening for only key details, which is how I know they definitely could have shortened them or excluded some of them altogether.

ummmm

The only reason why this got two stars was because of Jean Paul Mordrake.... Ellie McClendon is very monotoned and this is a typical Nicole Snow book however I think she went back to her 5th grade descriptions when she wrote this I felt it in my loins... unloading his seed... I listened to the beginning until she goes to the party as is fake fiance and then skipped the last 2 chapters and even then I skipped a lot of them

Pretty Good Novel

I must say I've read much better from Nicole Snow. It was enjoyable to listen to, there was drama, romance, and heartache throughout. Not sure why all the negative feedback, but to each his own.

Oh dear ...!

I will be sending this back . I finished it in the hope it would improve . It didn’t . The story was predictable but dragged on . The narrators were barely tolerable . The Ellie McClenden was monotonous at best ! I just can’t find anything good I’m afraid . I will stop now ...!
