What a Beautiful representation of death

I LOVED THIS BOOK! I especially appreciated the pov of death and how it is not her fault life is so cruel, I can’t wait for the next.

Lauren Roberts as Mara is amazing!

Fearful ★★★★☆ (4.25/5)

Fearful felt like an emotional gut punch disguised as a novella per usual in Lauren’s writing/reading bahahaha. Knowing where this fits into the Powerless timeline made everything hurt more, especially seeing events and motivations from a different angle. This book made me understand characters I already cared about on a deeper level, even when I did not necessarily agree with their choices. Also Mara is SO cool. Really wish she and Kitt wouldn’t have ended off on the note they did - I really loved their dynamic through the book till it went to hell.

There is so much fear driving the decisions in this story, and it never feels exaggerated. The stakes feel personal instead of grand, which made everything hit harder. Watching Kitt wrestle with loyalty, guilt, and love while knowing what is coming next was brutal in a very effective way. I do think it could have been slightly longer. There were moments where I wanted just a bit more breathing room, especially emotionally, but overall it added meaningful depth to the series. It did exactly what a companion novella should do without feeling unnecessary or like filler.

Painful and absolutely worth reading if you are invested in this world!!! It is a bit slow to begin, but totally worth it in the end.

Beautiful Story

I just want to say that this was written so beautifully. Lauren Roberts never disappoints when telling her tales about this world and our wonderful MCs and even the side characters as well. There is always so much depth and unraveling when learning about the experiences of the lives in this world. So many lives are intertwined but also so unique and it’s simply so beautiful. I will say this was not quite the story I expected to read regarding Kitt but it was amazing. Romantic and tragic — in typical Lauren Roberts’ fashion. I also loved how the ending leaves possibility for more to come. If you loved the trilogy, I definitely recommence giving this a read!

Missing the Spark

Lauren Roberts always writes such captivating books with beautifully detailed descriptions. Although this wasn’t my favorite installment in the series, I can appreciate its importance in understanding the backstory established in the previous book. I found the main female character to be extremely dull and at times, selfish in a way that can frustrate the reader, which made her storyline less captivating. Overall, it’s still worth the read to complete the series but it doesn’t quite carry the same energy or spark as the first two.

Lauren Roberts cuts us open one more time with Kirt’s final days. As we see his demise through the eyes of Mara; the reaper. She awaits for him. Watching carefully through the castle. This story was a beautiful sword laced with venom waiting to be plunged into the hearts of all.
