Read by the author.
Discover the secret to becoming the father your family deserves, whether you are a first-time dad or figuring it out as you go.
Glen Henry never wanted to be a father. He grew up in a broken home and assumed that the role was worthless. Then he saw what a good father looked like and became passionate about not only being a good father himself but helping others see what fatherhood could be through his wildly popular YouTube channel, Beleaf in Fatherhood.
Maybe you weren't given a handbook on fatherhood, but that doesn't mean you're unprepared. In fact, you have what it takes to grow into the kind of father your children need. In Father Yourself First, Glen offers hard-earned wisdom, honest storytelling, and six foundational principles that will help you:
- Father yourself to maintain a healthy inner voice
- Parent from a place of healing by addressing unresolved issues from your own past
- Connect with your children by embracing childishness and adventure
- Identify your children's unique gifts early on and help fine-tune their skills into productive habits
- Establish a community of fathers to exchange values and practices, and regularly see examples of healthy fatherhood
Whether you're stepping into fatherhood for the first time or figuring it out as you go, Father Yourself First will meet you right where you are—and walk with you as you become the father your family deserves.

When I was a single mother, raising my son and my daughter. Myself and many of my friends claim the role as mother and father, After listening to this book, I realize I could not be the mother and the father, I can only be mother, each one of us have a role to play in our children’s lives and the importance of that male role model is just as important as the mother. The author spoke about his parents separating and his father moving across the country to California, even though he was able to visit his father; It wasn’t the same as his father being in the home full-time. I have learned when we have young sons. We, the mothers tend to put a responsibility on our young sons (the role of father to siblings and man at the house) even though we do not intend for that to happen I feel that we place a responsibility on them that they’re not mature enough to handle. Thank you Mr. Glen for writing this book, I appreciate you allowing the world to see the importance of the role of the Black Father.
The importance of fathers in their children’s life.

I have cried, forgiven myself for my moments where I fell short (given mercy/grace to my parents), laughed out loud (especially when Glen mentioned the Uzi’s “what’s your name?” saga.) This book contains so many gems to encourage readers on their journey of enjoying parenthood and building a strong foundation of self confidence and love in ourselves. Then pour all of that love, acceptance, grace and peace into our babies.
Glen, is in his best literary bag with this book!!!! 10 years well spent!
A reminder to put your mask on first.
