Publisher's summary

A new adult epic fantasy novel with complex cultures, unique fantasy words, accents, and both male and female main POVs. Fated Blight has a word count of just over 129,000, and is the first novel in The Sum of Ages, a six book series. The series has some dark/violent scenes and themes, but no profanity or explicit sexual content.

Blurb:

Their scent is on the wind. Their blood is in the tides. They are coming.

Three years ago, Olenka rejected her place of privilege among the clergy, carving out a new life for herself as a sirena of the Great Sea. But when she begins seeing bleak visions of a gruesome future, she is forced to reconsider the dogma of her youth.

They are nearly here.

Given his outlander heritage, Corin’s only wish was to stay out of trouble. He grew up hearing the songs of Vallin, and the campfire rumors of unseen horrors stalking the plains, but they were never more than shallow words on superstitious tongues.

But then one breached the city.

In a city split by fear, and on a sea scarred by plague, Olenka and Corin must learn to listen to the mysterious voice whispering to their hearts and face an age of blight that is destined to be repeated.

Repeated, because it never truly ended.

Amazing

I really enjoyed this audiobook. It was written by one of my high school English teachers, and up until now, I had no clue his was this good at writing. Fated Blight has a great deal of intriguing story points and concepts that I am excited to see progress, and the narration is top notch. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is a fan of the fantasy genre.

Pleasantly surprised

I was never a fan of fantasy. But this was recommended to me so I gave it a shot. I really enjoyed the story. It kept me engaged and eager to continue. Narrator was one of the best I’ve ever listened to.

Great characters, great story, clean fantasy

This book demonstrates the strength of the indie author. I had never heard of the author before I read this book, and I was so pleasantly surprised. I've read so many books by published authors that were far inferior to this one.

This is a true creature feature. No humans! It features characters from an aquatic race of people, and a strange four-kneed race. They were well described and established. The two races were woven together via shared cultural differences and similarities. I enjoyed the arc of both POV characters.

The magic is subtle and doesn't figure in greatly to this story. It's interesting and I hope to read more about it in the subsequent stories.

The writing is very polished and well edited.

As a noblebright author and reader, this book gets a thumbs up. No swearing, no on page sex. The political intrigues and complex emotional content make it an adult story.

Amazing high fantasy!

This book was such an interesting read! It's fun and adventurous and the characters are super diverse. It's this wonderful story about peoples from all over fighting to com  ltogether against a great evil and rid their world of it. The different cultures and subcultures of this world are reminiscent of the vast difference that you find in Tolkien's works. I was super impressed with the second installment in this universe. I have to read the next book soon or my brain my just implode!!!

An engaging coming of age fantasy!

Benjamin Schwarting writes an engaging coming of age fantasy! The story is well written, the dual POV works great, the races are interesting, characters well developed, and the plot moves at a good pace. I look forward to book 2 in the Sum of Ages series! Audio Version: Zac Aleman does a great job with the audio version. Each character is unique and the overall narration is delightful.

Good narration, story loses its fire

Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is an honest review. Narrated by Zac Aleman, Fated Blight is suppose to be this epic adventure in ten battle to keep a bay a dangerous blight from wrecking all life. While the narrator does a fine job to deliver an immersive story; it becomes a washout for me for there's so much dialogue it felt like it
squeezes out all the adventure that should be there and under cutting its cast of characters
