You are more than your physical body . . .

Far Journeys is the second of Robert Monroe's trilogy and is my favorite. I've read the actual book twice already but listening to the audio version is a real treat.

Kevin Pierce is awesome as the narrator.

Journeys Out of the Body was interesting, but described Robert Monroe's observations when he was still questioning his experiences. In Far Journeys, this second book, there is more about his out of body experiences and Robert Monroe is a good writer. Even though I've read this book before, his eloquent usage of words makes revisiting his book just as enjoyable as before. I'm looking forward to the audio version of the third book of the trilogy, Ultimate Journey.

This single book had a tremendous impact on my life and beliefs. It was a catalyst in a mind expanding search for more information and changed the way I spend my time . . . this life.

I'm not certain this book is for everyone, but if a person is looking for answers as to why we are here, who we are, what we can do in this lifetime . . . there were quite a few answers in here (for me, your mileage may vary.) And, the story that winds through these pages is simply amazing.

It's another of many books that are becoming available these days about Consciousness beyond the brain matter contained in our skulls.

Mind Blowing

Where does Far Journeys rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top

What was one of the most memorable moments of Far Journeys?

All of it

What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?

All of it

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have liked to but the information presented precludes any dream of it. Half way thru I was so shaken I had to stop and spend time to get a handle on what Monroe is saying. I always thought I was not my body. Monroe provides the rest of the story.

Any additional comments?

This book should be required reading in all senior highschools.

Amazing

It is so interesting to witnessing the founder of OBE ascend to his evolution. This second book is an awesome progression from the first book which I enjoyed immensely. If you do get lost in the chapter where he goes into a dark realization, make sure you listen very carefully to the next up and coming chapters because it turns out to be very positive and beautiful especially how it unfolds. Many people stop reading the book after that chapter and go into denial or depression as he himself did as well. He begrudgingly and eventually gets back in the horse so to speak and delves back into OBE to get an explanation to this newfound unwanted information. You will be pleasantly surprised but you have to make sure you listen and re listen until you fully understand the chapters that follow because he does explain the misinterpretation or miscommunication and it is in a subtle way so you may miss it. This is a must read and I will definitely read and or listen to it again!!!

Very Disappointing

Extremely disappointing. I was initially drawn to Monroe because of his apparent earnestness and dedication to trying to understand his OBEs. At first, this book seemed like a good follow up to Journeys Out of the Body, with explanations of his later OBE/consciousness studies and experiments... Then out of nowhere it became a first person narrative/science fiction novel with way too many inconsistencies to be taken seriously. Monroe was flying around with beings who could read his thoughts and explain the mysteries of the universe but needed to pause like a foreigner learning English nearly every other sentence to say things like, "how do you say? "Ah yes, (insert random 80s idiom)." The aliens also loved using English acronyms, which was especially odd since they were all supposedly communicating without language. Monroe skipped past most of the insight and explanations OBE seekers actually care about to instead deliver an elaborate series of hokey dialogues and new age wet dream alien adventures. I could have forgiven some of this if it had been presented as an illustration of actual experiences he had, but there was no such disclaimer.
He also included a massive amount of personal reflection, which was irritatingly like reading a too-long word salad full of technical terms and historical and philosophical points he seemed to think added credence to the world view given to him by his alien friends. He provided his own overview of the entire history of existence more than once in the text, and both times seemed disappointingly full of contemporary ideas and infirmation that were by no means revelatory. A lot of people seem to gobble this stuff up, but it struck me as disengenous and not at all what I expected from Monroe. The fact that he started the book off talking about how he had run into difficulties getting out of his own body and had been struggling to reconcile information provided by other OBE participants at his institute made it seem even more suspicious that he managed to suddenly completely solve all the mysteries by himself... not using the scientific method, research, or analysis of his signature detailed records of OBEs but through Hollywood style adventures with his spirit guides

"I Still Marvel at How Powerful Thoughts Are"

Wow. Just wow. I can't believe this is a true story. I even laughed with some of this book. Excellent. OOBE testimonies, left-right brain hemi-sync technology, physical sex being nothing compared to "giving love" or "meeting minds" during astral projection and much more. Some very good instructions that we should all know and understand as well.

Enjoyable and interesting

Very enjoyable listening both due to the content and the excellent quality of the reader (Kevin Pierce). Kevin Pierce is the best reader that I've heard on Audible to date. I listened 2 1/2 times through to really get everything out of it that I could. Robert Monroe, the author, provides a very interesting history of Earth. I look forward to my own out-of-body experiences so that I can find out about all this stuff for myself.

A very instructive manual. Much knowledge and guidance for those who are inquisitive and aware. Very well read. Some descriptions need concentration, but very well worth applying your mind. Love the epilogue, good guide for life.

Good content of the book.

The narrator is really good, the best I have listened to. The book itself is OK. The trip around somewhere some time was told with far too many details, quite boring sometimes. Also, it seems there is an American Fetish that everywhere in the world physical or non-physical there is somebody talking about America, longing to visit New York. Some times it made hard for me to believe in certain stories as it had some American connection.

Mesmerising.

The book is an incredible account, that has changed my life forever.
One of the most poignant "stories" ever told.
This thought-provoking work felt like a homecoming.
Instead of brushing the surface, you are taken alongside Mr. Monroe and thrust into the thick of it.
It just really was an experience like no other.

Listen only if you are looking for the meaning of life. Robert Monroe experimented in a scientific way with Out Of Body Experiences (OOBEs), he pioneered this field.

Science Fiction or fact? Monroe's profound journey

A rather too slow buildup for my liking, initially the book covers who the monroe institute was set up (yawn) which made me frustrated, as i was expecting some advice or guidance in practically beginning to experience OOBE's. but actually zero on this topic, monroe only describes his institute and very generally some of the technology that is used to stimulate OOBE's.
at this point i was frustrated and bored, as i wanted the book to be a 'how to' and it seemed like simply an extended advert for the institute and their services.
however, the book really kicks off in the 2nd half. Monroe describes his advanced OOBE's as encounters with other intelligent entities, beings of light who exist in other dimensions, and are eager to communicate and interact with us. Listening to the book, it occured to me that this could be viewed simply as a work of science fiction. there is really no way for me to assess the truth of Monroe's claims about the entities who contacted him. However, it's fascinating and becomes quite profound towards the end, with some deep philosophical views on life here on earth, and what lies beyond. overall recommended - despite the slow start, i will listen to this several times i think and also explore his other books.

You Are More Than Your Second Body!

Far Journeys expands upon Robert Monroe's concepts that he outlined in his first book Journeys Out Of The Body, and reading this is highly recommended as it sets the scene for what is to follow. In Far Journeys, Monroe goes into some detail about his non-physical sojourns into dimensions that are not of this world. Some of the stories he relates may be at first difficult for readers to grasp as they relate to experiences that would not be encountered in three dimensional reality, and so he has to in his own words find a way of recounting these in a way that is accepted by the logical mind. He invents a unique terminology in an attempt to translate what he experienced into real world terms.

The worlds that he describes in Far Journeys have gone under other names, notably the astral plane or spirit realm, but Monroe avoids these terms as far as possible which may be an attempt to frame his story in a way which is scientifically acceptable. There is a section devoted to his shock discovery that humans exist for the purpose of generating what he calls "loosh" or an energy output that is generated by human emotions and fed on by inhabitants of these ethereal worlds.

As with his initial book, Monroe simply recounts what he experienced and unlike many of the books written for the alternative market it is conspicuously absent of any "new age fluff" or fanciful theorising. The conclusions it reaches and the implications thereof are quite profound.

Awesone tail of adventure. Soul lifting.

Experiencing OBE or NDE's as I have, Mr Monroe's is more confirmation of the true nature of existence. Tries in beautifully with ancient secret teachings
