Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy the dog find excitement and adventure wherever they go in Enid Blyton's most popular series.

In book 20, the Famous Five visit Whispering Island, another mysterious place with a million stories surrounding it. Is it really haunted?

It's all fun and games until the Five get stranded there and realise they're not the only ones on the island.

There’s plenty of mystery, adventure, scenery, and, of course, lots of good food. It’s a pleasant listen overall.

It is disappointing that Jan Francis doesn’t narrate these last two Famous Five stories. It takes a few minutes to adjust to Ann Beach, but she settles in and does a solid job. Timmy’s voice is the biggest change, so give it about 15 minutes to get used to the new style.

Story-wise, there are a few small inconsistencies compared to earlier books. You can tell Enid Blyton was starting to tire of the series, and it doesn’t have quite the same spark as the earlier adventures. Taken as a standalone, though, it’s still an enjoyable, cozy, classic Famous Five tale.
