Publisher's summary

A single mother in segregated Virginia pushes back on societal prejudice and her own family’s judgment in an emotionally powerful short story by New York Times bestselling author Sadeqa Johnson.

With a newborn in tow, Bubbles Jones escapes a brutal sanctuary for “wayward girls” to confront the hypocritical shame of her pastor father and the betrayal of a lover. But Bubbles is accompanied by a woman who offers her shelter and a dream. Forging an unpredictable path ahead, Bubbles will not yield and will not hide in her unwavering commitment to make a big life real in a world determined to keep her small.

Sadeqa Johnson’s Fallen Grace is part of Blaze, a collection of short stories about incendiary women across the decades who dare to defy convention. They can be read or listened to in one sitting.

Good follow-up to the "House of Eve"

Great follow-up to The House of Eve. If you wanted to know what happened to Bubbles

Determination

Love to bubble, never gave up, even when she had doubts, and I love that she held strong and still went back to the church.

Inspiring

The story was so good, I felt I was there in that time when segregation was alive and well. Judgement by the church folk was the law of the community. Good for Bubbles and her strength

Short story greatly written

Bubbles was a catalyst for change and stood up for herself. People are often so high and mighty that they must be humbled. Lastly, everyone isn’t your friend

The story flows flawlessly to highlight the hypocrisy of humanity. God bless the child.

The hypocrisy of the “Christian” versus humanity of the fallen with the innocent caught in between.

An unexpected ending

If you enjoyed the author's book, The House of Eve, you will love this shorty story. By a different name, the story of the girl who escapes from the home for unwed mothers in House of Eve has her story of what happened after the escape in this short story. As a stand alone short story of triumph over shame and trauma and the transition from girl to mother, this is a beautiful and warmly told account.

I WANTED MORE!!!!

I stumbled upon this today and am SO GLAD I DID!!! I had already listened to The House of Eve, so to find this story that was apart of/continuance of that was a bonus!!! This story was short, but good and DEEP!!! My mouth was open the entire time. I so wish it could be a part two to this quick read/listen. This was GOOD Sadeqa!!!!!
