Publisher's summary

Laney Harris thinks there might be monsters in Fairy, Texas.

She's right.

When her mother remarried and moved them to a town where a date meant hanging out at the Sonic, Laney figured that "boring" would have a whole new meaning. A new stepsister who despised her and a high school where she was the only topic of gossip were bad enough. But when she met the school counselor (and his terminal bad breath), she grew suspicious. Especially since he had wings that only she could see. And then there were Josh and Mason, two gorgeous glimmering-eyed classmates whose interest in her might not be for the reasons she hoped. Not to mention that dead guy she nearly tripped over in gym class.

Boring takes on an entirely new dimension in Fairy, Texas.

If she's going to survive in this small town, she'll have to learn to wing it.

Great YA story

I received this book for free for an honest and unbiased review

I like Margo's style of writing. The pacing was good, there was action, love, mystery snarkiness and paranormal -- everything I love!!
So Laney's mom gets remarried to John and now Laney has a new step dad and a stepsister who she can't stand, not to mention that her mom goes out of town a lot so she's stuck with them for long periods of time.
2 guys start to become really interested in Laney (Mason and Josh) but for romantic reasons or other??
Laney starts to notice strange things at her new high school in Fairy Texas starting with her counselor who had rancid breath, we soon find out why and what these people are and the plot they play with Laney and the Journey she goes on. This seems like a one and done book but I would love it if they made a sequel or a series. I would read them all.

The narrator did an amazing job, especially for having to read for teenagers. I would also listen to this narrator again too.
I would recommend this book and author to my friends

Happy Reading/Listening!!!

Something's Strange In Texas

Margo Bond Collins has written a superb story! I really enjoyed this story. I am quite sure that this will be the only story in this series because of the ending. It didn't have any cliffhangers so I assume this is it. If I were the author I would've taken this story much further. This story could've made a great series. I liked that she used a dual POV as well. I really enjoyed it from start to finish!

The narrator, Melissa Moran kept me immersed from start to finish. I did have a little problems with her female voices, like the female couches voice. I'm not sure why it needed to be so manly but it didn't hurt the story at all. I will be looking for other stories that this narrator has done. Overall, I give it a 5 star rating!

Interesting & different twist on Fairies,or Demons

Which character – as performed by Melissa Moran – was your favorite?

I loved Laney as she's the voice of the story. But I look at the overall story telling with the characters by the narrators.

Melissa displays all emotions with enough emphasis that we feel them in the voice of Laney and others. Laney's sarcasm feels so genuine as if slips off the tongue of the narrator. Melissa has to have a strong southern accent to fit a book placed in Texas. She does. Not all characters have the accent and those that do, she shows the influence of the southern swing of their voice. There are breaks in the chapters and Melissa gives a breath of a pause long enough to know that the story is changing in the chapter. When the narrator does small things that relate to the characters or what they are doing, it helps make the story become catching, Melissa does these small things. When the characters have an obstacle in their way of speaking, Melissa makes the character sound as if it's obscured slightly.

Any additional comments?

Wow. That first sentence is one to draw you in! I had to keep going with that lead in.

We get to meet all the characters and see Fairy, Texas with Laney as she experiences it all for the first time. Boy, do Laney's thoughts come through in the narrator's voice! The town seems strange at first sight. The dreamy eyes she gets from several boys, the strange guidance counselor that has rancid breath, and Oma Raina with the same breath. Just to find the two handsome boys that want to date Laney, the guidance counselor, and another woman talking about her in an abandoned house. Things seem stranger and stranger at first, drawing me in to know what is really going on here in Fairy.

Laney is the dreaded new girl at Fairy High School. She has a new step-sister that doesn't want her around, a new friend that seems to have a crush on her (that she doesn't need being day one of school), and trips over a dead body as she's trying to impress the track coach in gym class. This all starts how Laney's reputation starts to tarnish in school, and just the icing of the cake for what she'll have to endure.

Through it all, Laney seems like my kind of girl. I could be friends with her. She keeps up with the quick quips that others throw at her, always having one to say back to them. Smart girl.

I really enjoy Margo's writing style with the narrators she picks. The book feels as Laney is talking to me as we live through her days. As if she's my friend telling me all she knows. It feels like she pulls me into the story with the characters and I'm their sounding board.

I would suggest this story to older teens as there is the underlining attempt of sex to the story line. Yet there is teen drama, mixed with fairy/demon meddling and ploys.

There are a few different twists to the story that I enjoyed, events and fairy/demon creation. I was kept guessing as to what would happen with these characters. I'm TOTALLY wanting more with Laney and Josh and all the characters. Especially with what we learn of the 'fairy' world, Laney, and more!

Remembering The Teen Years

I received a free copy of "Fairy, Texas" in exchange for an unbiased review. After being uprooted and moved by her mom to "Fairy, Texas" Laney is the "new girl". How horrible. She can't even count on her step-sister to be of any help. Her step-sister hates her (Cinderella syndrom). Laney does not recognize that she has any special powers. However, she sees things that others don't. When she meets two guys, Josh and Mason, the story really takes off. Margo did a great job of giving you a well thought out plot with some twists and a real convincing high school experience. Laney's High School and mine, although many years separated, are not all that different. Except for the secret that Fairy, Texas has. Great book, looking for more of Margo's works to read/listen to. THX

Not bad

The plot is OK, and storytelling is pretty good. The book kept my interest throughout. A little bit of a cop out at the end, she just magically knew how to use her powers. A lot of unanswered questions. I guess we'll have to see if this becomes a series.

A Great Young Adult Book!

Would you listen to Fairy, Texas again? Why?

Yes! Teens, murder, and the like! What could a good young adult book ask for?

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fairy, Texas?

One of the most memorable moments of the book is when Laney found the dead body... and the immediate aftermath of that scene. Laney, being a new kid in school, and on the very first day of school... finds a dead body.

The school counselor is not much help to Laney, and she still has to deal with classes, being the new kid in school, and her new group of friends.

Who would you trust?

Which character – as performed by Melissa Moran – was your favorite?

Kayla. She's the snarky step-sister attending the same school as Laney... a very small town high school Everyone knows each other, and Kayla knows how to keep things exciting, and difficult, for everyone else.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it was. And for the most part, I was able to. I had a lot of free time one morning, and just listened to the book.

Any additional comments?

Nope, just that this book is an excellent book all around. Well written, read for audible is excellent, and all that good stuff. And I'm grateful for the chance to listen to the book for free (thanks to audioblast).

Fairies or demons?!

A change to small town living for a big city girl. Laney had just moved to Fairy, Texas. What she thinks will be a born slow paced town soon has her realizing there are mystery around her. Humans that are actually fairies or demons have decided she will be their savior or will she be their demise? Great read. Never knew who you could trust all the way to the end.

I really enjoyed this audiobook!

I went through this audiobook quickly as I had a hard time putting it down. I love paranormal love and intrigue. I would have given this book five stars if it was not for several puzzling questions it raised in my mind which were never answered throughout the book.

Laney moves from Atlanta to Fairy, Texas, after her mom marries someone from her past. Her stepsister is awful and she cannot imagine things getting any worse but she finds out it could get much worse.

The story is fun and full of twists. There is quite a bit of action and suspense. I was very disappointed when it ended. I definitely wanted more. So many unanswered questions.

I did fall a bit for Josh. He is a such a great character. I don't want to give out spoilers so I will not elaborate but I hope the next book will answer many of my questions about him and his group.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I'm looking forward to a sequel.

This audiobook was given to me free of charge in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Somebody loves Buffy

This tries hard, but will never be Buffy. This was so disapointing. It's hard to find anyone to like in this book.
It's everything you don't like about teens all in one book.

Good story

Where does Fairy, Texas rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the better indie YA fantasy books I've read lately.

What did you like best about this story?

Interesting mythology, the story took a couple of semi-surprising turns despite it mostly being straight-forward.

What does Melissa Moran bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I liked the voice and attitude she provided to the antagonist.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could have, but as it was I *did* listen to it all in one day.

Any additional comments?

Hoping the sequel gets an audiobook as well.
