Dark, Horrific, & an Honest Look at What Could Be

This was a dark and horrific tale that depicts an honest look of what could be if we don't take care of our planet. It's the story of Dominic and Zenith, two people who were left behind when a ship carries away the few remaining good people of Earth to avoid its destruction. Zenith is pregnant, and the two live in a cave where they are in dire need of food. Food, fresh water, and other supplies are limited in this barren, post-apocalyptic world. Due to Zenith's vulnerability, Dominic must venture out alone to hunt for supplies. He faces a number of terrors, most of which are the results of remnants of war and a planet that has fallen victim to severe climate change. As the story progresses, it unravels into a realm of insanity. Is this insanity caused by Dominic's exposure to the elements or because of something greater?

This is a departure from the type of books Malcolm Van usually writes, and for that, I am thankful. The story is fast-paced, detailed, and terrifyingly realistic. The narrator Dr. Creepen does a fantastic job handling this incredibly dark material, and he's so good at it that I will probably have nightmares from it. 'F**ked by the Red Devil' is a rare gem from Mr. Van and it renews my faith in him as both a writer and as a creative artist. I was given a free review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, and I hope you enjoy and fear this story as much as I have.

A Wild, Horrific Ride

This was a pretty wild ride, and when the realization that much of it could actually happen settles in, it's terribly scary as well. 'F**ked by the Red Devil' is by far the best thing I've seen come from author Malcolm Van's imagination. I was saddened to learn about the author's passing earlier this fall, but this book will certainly become his legacy. Not only is it pristinely written, but it is a very frightful depiction of what could happen to our planet if we don't take care of it, and take care of each other. It shows the possible outcomes of a world filled with greed, hatred, intolerance, war and pollution. I fully enjoyed the journey of Dominic, who must venture out into this awful and desolate world alone in search for food for his pregnant friend Zenith. Dominic faces off against several obstacles that not only threaten his life but also that of Zenith and their unborn child if he doesn't return to her with food. 'F**ked by the Red Devil' is a fast-paced journey through a terrifying existence and a brave man's decent into insanity. I hope Malcolm lived long enough to hear Dr. Creepen's narration of this short masterpiece. He would have been very pride. Dr. Creepen handles the story with sophistication and dignity, letting the story move his narration instead of the narrative tones being dominate over the story. It takes a true voice artist to handle a book in such a way, and he did a brilliant job. I was a bit turned off by some of Malcolm's earlier works, but seeing and hearing this made me realize what a true master-storyteller he really was. I'll miss Malcolm, but books like this will aid in his legacy and keep him known by readers worldwide for quite a long time. I must end by saying I was given a free copy of this audiobook for reviewing purposes, and I must add that it was worth it.
