Same book as Dry Bones
I was very disappointed to find after purchasing this book that I had heard the story before. It seems that the title has been changed, it was called Dry Bones before and narrated by Simon Vance, this version is much better, being read by Peter Forbes, but very disappointed to have been duped into buying the same book twice.
Enjoyed the book as much as all the other Peter May books.

Duped! This is Dry Bones by Peter May from Audible 2012!
I read the review that mentioned the fact that this is the same book that Peter May released through Audible in 2012 called Dry Bones. I checked my Audible Library and there it was! I have everything by Peter May released on Audible. I don’t like being duped though. Fine if Audible is going to re-release a book with a different (and perhaps better) narrator, but I think this should be mentioned in the book details so the purchaser can make up their own mind whether they want to purchase the same story twice. For some reason I always imagined the character Enzo MacLeod looking like Sean Connery. In this edition of Dry Bones (Extraordinary People), Peter Forbes sounds like Sean Connery, at least to me anyway. Of the two books, I would pick Peter Forbes, but that’s just an opinion. Listen to the sample of Dry Bones to see which narrator you like. Nice try Audible but you got caught out!

A huge disappointment
Apologies for writing about myself in the third person, but here goes...
Jess wrote 'this book' on the board and drew a circle around it. She then wrote 'cliched' on the board and drew a circle around it, from this she drew an arrow to the word 'this book'. Looking back she realised she wasn't finished, so with her cantaloupe melons pushing against her shirt, she wrote more words in circles and drew arrows pointing to 'this book', 'predictable', 'one dimensional women', 'irritating daughters - who you don't mind dying', 'stereotypes', 'poorly written' and finally 'random unnecessary French words'. She stood back and looked at her work. She still didn't quite understand the clues, so she typed it in to Google. Thousands of hits showed up and she sighed her cantaloupe breasts moving and straining.
Oh Pete May, what have you done, this is truly dire.
Very disappointed with the narrator who is usually so good.

I normally like his books but this was like a poor man’s Dan Brown novel.
There is no suspense and the logical leaps that the characters make are nonsensical.

Creepy and badly written fixation with a 19 year old girl
I have many books by Peter May in my library and have enjoyed most. This one however has an awful, creepy and tedious preoccupation with a 19 year old’s breasts and by her 50 year old professor Emzo. A shame as the story wasn’t bad but I was so irritated by this constant weird descriptions of her breasts that I lost all interest in the story. Couldn’t finish it. Peter Forbes was good as always.

Love Peter May & Peter Forbes Reads It So Well!
I loved the Lewis trilogy and Coffin Road. This drew me on to The Enzo Stories!
The story begins in Paris.
Enzo Macleod is a Forensic expert.
He takes a bet that he can solve the seven most notorious French murders, armed with modern technology & the advances of science. Little does he realise, at the time of the bet, how much computer science will also help him to discover the killers of the first murder he tackles.
He begins his search in the catacombs below the city.
Will he be the next victim?

Well I had no idea what the book would be like but soon discovered it to be very much like the Dan Brown books in the sense of chasing clues. A bit far fetched in places but I kept going to see how it sets up the series.

Tedious
I got this because it promised forensic science! Aside from a brief mention early on in the character introduction, there haven't been any forensics all, and I'm now halfway through. What I'm getting instead is a LOT of... google searches. Endless conversations about google search results while main character Enzo and his teenage student with CANTALOUPE BREASTS (and don't forget it! Though even if you do, the author will remind you time and time again) look stuff up on the internet and leap to conclusions about it. This constitutes the "investigation." It's drudgery.
And Enzo isn't remotely likeable. In one sentence he'll be telling his teenage daughter he loves her and in the next he'll be ogling his student's CANTALOUPE BREASTS. Real good behaviour from a dad there. He objectifiies women at every turn. A creep! Comes across as very arrogant, sexist and one-note.
Other reviewers have labelled this as cut rate Dan Brown, and they're absolutely right. Wish I'd read those reviews before wasting a credit.
Narrator is good.

Excellent, almost extraordinary!
Came to this after listening to Night Gate, very much out of order! But wanted to understand better the characters.
Not disappointed, And French setting well done, and well narrated too by Peter Forbes.
Only quibble re the plot was the somewhat credibility-stretching leaps of faith/logic in deciphering the Dan Brown like codes that went with the various objects associated with the bodies.
However does highlight a feature of audio-books; they are very much of the moment, without the facility in an e-book or better still a hard-copy of 'thumbing' back through to refresh/revisit.
But at the end of the day, Enzo and his complicated family have gotten under my skin, and I guess that is what counts.

Fabulous of Course
I'm not sure who I love more.... Peter May or Peter Forbes. If you love Peter May's books, this story won't disappoint. However, the constant reference to French geographical locations throughout, nearly drove me mad. So much so, that had I been reading the book instead of listening to it, i'd have given up. Having said that, I look forward to following Enzo Macleod. I just hope to god he doesn't feel the need to tell me the name of every street he walks down.
