  • Kyle Patrick - Changing Consciousness with the Mayan Temple Flute
    Mar 27 2026

I met Kyle Patrick and his girlfriend Jaydee, who live in Vancouver Island, while each of us were visiting Maui. Amongst other interests, Kyle plays the Mayan Temple Flute which is also sometimes referred to as a "double harmony, double melody, Flute." His is an absolutely beautiful flute made out of cedar and you can hear him play it near the beginning of our conversation. I was particularly interested in his story because only recently I discovered and fell in love with the Bansuri Flute, which is made out of bamboo and is particularly popular in Indian Raga music. Kyle talks about how the Mayan Temple Flute has changed his life, in terms of how the sounds can change consciousness. He also ties in the effects of breath work. Here is my conversation with Kyle Patrick.

  • Joey Scalgione/Jammin' On Maui: Tie Dye, Music, and the Grateful Dead!
    Mar 8 2024

I met Joey Scalgione, on a recent month-long trip to Maui, when I discovered his amazing and elaborate tie dye clothing store in the small town of Paia. I also discovered that, every Friday night, Joey produces a "live" concert featuring various artists and bands on the island. The shocker was how much the funk/rock band I saw, Three To 5, blew me away! I ended up meeting Joey and hearing just a piece of his life story was yet another shocker! From being born deaf to his early involvement with music to his journey with the Grateful Dead and Ken Kesey and to his tie dye clothing store in Maui called Jammin' On Maui, we've just touched the surface…

  • Jamie Lawrence: Singing In Maui
    Mar 1 2024
I've spent several month-long trips in Maui and have had the opportunity to hear numerous performances and discovered that Maui is full of amazing musicians! I was fortunate to be somewhere, one night, where this guy was introduced to play guitar and sing. I was stunned when I heard his voice for the first time. I'm a great fan of singers who sing naturally, and with a pure tone, andJamie Lawrence became one of my favorite singers to listen to. Toward the end of the interview, at 23:13, Jamie performs for the show.
