I'm Hooked

I be been Hooked after the first 15 min. Of Daughter in time and I just can't put down the series , And So , I'm off to the next exciting Book in the series . I think it's a must Read

Just amazing

I love this series so much. Sarah Woodbury is a master story teller and Laurel Schroeder has done an amazing job of narrating the story.

Love this Series!

I love the After Cilmeri series! The cast of characters keep growing with every new book, and I love them all. Sarah Woodbury has a wonderful way of writing that weaves the new characters in with the old, as well as weaving factual history with the fictional. I'm always anxious for the next book in the series!!

My favorite time travel series continues!!

This is my favorite time travel series because it follows actual history and people from that time. I enjoy how Ms. Woodbury develops wonderfully interesting characters and adds them to that particular time period. The story is full of intrigue and relationships but doesn't rely on detailed sex scenes and constant cursing instead of a plot.

NEW CHARACTERS AND NEW TWISTS

What did you love best about Exiles in Time?

Exiles expands the scope of the series both geographically and in character development. We are introduced to unwilling time travelers and how they adapted to their unexpected circumstances in very different ways. Although old friends are substantially not present, their influence is present.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Exiles in Time?

When Cassie volunteers to be a decoy to mislead their pursuers. Her strength and self confidence in the wild demonstrates how she evolved and adapted from the person she described herself as before being brought to Wales.

Which character – as performed by Laurel Schroeder – was your favorite?

James Stewart. He slowly evolves from nobleman to soldier to friend, all the while keeping his dignity. It is nicely portrayed in the book and Ms. Schroeder's performance does that evolution credit.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The exchanges between Cassie and Samuel toward the end. Samuel has been a side story for so long that it is interesting to see him interact with Cassie in particular given the similarity of their circumstances.

Good Story, Poor Narrator

Narrator sounded stilted. Her accents were good. She did not help an interesting story. I like this authors' works. I' d rather read it instead of listening to this narrator again.

I'm amazed how I missed some of the humor when I was reading. absolutely glad I listened to this story after reading it!

If you could sum up Exiles in Time in three words, what would they be?

There are literally no three words that could adequately describe it. It would take far more.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Exiles in Time?

There were lots of them. Most of this book made me so frustrated and annoyed. It's like, well when you watch a favorite tv show and two characters you really want to see together keep avoiding each other because one is seriously stupid... yeah it's a lot like that.

Have you listened to any of Laurel Schroeder’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to all of the books she's narrated for Sarah. This one she did an amazing job with the different variations of the Scottish accents - as Highlanders speak with more of a brogue than Lowlanders, peasants speak differently from nobles, ect. She did really well with setting the different tones so it kept the story flowing and interesting... and the funny parts amusing. Definitely not a monotone reader. Thank goodness!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Braveheart meets Bones without the science..... yeah that's kind of how it feels. If you've watched Bones and really gotten into the show, you'll understand what I mean. Emotional investment in the characters will definitely happen.

Any additional comments?

As far as the story goes - Cassie really irked me... a lot. Her staunch unwillingness to even consider how she could fit into Callum's world without compromising herself really just, it bugged me more than you could possibly imagine. I mean in the end that's really what relationships are all about. Give and take. Unwilling to even see beyond yourself is just... sad. I do mean sad in the bad way not in the "I feel sorry for her" way. I mean even in the world of today, we all have to conform to some sort of societal norm for work, school, friends, ect. That doesn't always mean we sacrifice our core beliefs to do so. Some people do, but I also find those people sad too. It's like after being on her own for 5 years - she still didn't really have that strong sense of self in the way she should have had it. It was more of a "if I'm alone, I can be me, but I can't be me around other people because of ....." whatever stupid reason. Knowing yourself and knowing who you truly are, those are two very separate things. I know what I'm willing to compromise on and what I am not, I know what the line is that will never be broken, and I didn't need to be stranded in the Middle Ages to find that out. So, yeah she irked me. Maybe I just have a bias to Callum cause he seemed truly genuine and sweet, and she hurt him. Maybe that's what I don't like. Anyway, aside from that - the overall plot... wonderful plot. The end game of what to do about Scotland without involving David, yet doing it in a way that sets a precedent for something larger later, absolutely brilliant. I'm glad a certain clergyman finally got ditched. Didn't like him in the last book, and definitely didn't like him in this one.

Now - with all of the story details out of the way, the reading I did find some issue with the recording. It could have been from listening on my phone to listening on my computer, but it sounded like there was a slight repeat glitch in Chapter 16 I think near the end where it looped a paragraph twice and at the end where it seemed to just have jumped to Cassie showing up at Sterling. Again, this could just be on my end due to the bouncing back and forth, so hopefully someone else can confirm that, but otherwise it was very well read and done like all the others.
