Story
We used to believe that mankind contaminated the Earth through our use of oil, coal, and other non-biodegradable consumables and pollutants. We never once considered that the planet might one day contaminate us. But that's what happened. More than a year has passed since an ancient gas started seeping from every surface of the planet. Nine out of every 10 humans have since transformed into walking dead creatures with an insatiable hunger for human brains and flesh. We, the survivors, are now food for the afflicted… and we are vastly outnumbered.

The tribe had a far distance to travel and the undead weren't their only enemies. The hyena hunted them relentlessly, unscrupulous men wanted what they had, and even Mother Nature seemed to be against them. Even if they made it, could they put away their weapons, leave their animals behind and go back to school? Could they go back to being children or had they been too long in the wild?

Story
The Baxter family once ran airboat tours in the Florida Everglades; life was simple and good. Everything changed with the black rain. It tainted the Earth, setting in motion a true zombie apocalypse. Most dogs died after the pitch fell from the sky. So did the alligators and crocodiles, but the ancient reptiles did not rest for long. Instead, they awoke hungry, falling in to feed beside the hordes of reanimated humanity.

You met Tony Mallette in Dead Hunger III: The Chatsworth Chronicles. Low key and sometimes confoundingly sure of himself, he was an instrumental member of our group of survivors. When the black rain began to fall, it was a worldwide phenomenon that mystified everyone. Climbing Fox Wattana of the Henomawi Nation claims responsibility for the black rain and its effects; he says it is his revenge against the United States government for robbing his people of their land, ensuring their ultimate extinction. Cole "CB" Baxter isn't taking this lying down. He, his sister, Lilly, and Dr. Georgina Lake will flee the airboat-tour business in the Florida Everglades and attempt to rescue what family they can.

Story
It's been three long years since Deadbreak. That's what everyone's calling it - the day the dead rose. Every day since then, Jeremiah Reid has had one goal: to make his way back to his daughter. With his four-legged companion, Joe, Jeremiah has to travel a lawless wasteland teeming with zombies, bandits, and worse, like people who put anchovies on pizza (you know who you are). It's a new world out there, and no one is safe. People are weary, cities are in ruin, supplies are scarce, and brains are on the menu.

Publisher's Summary
EV ? O ? LU ? TION -
- A change in the gene pool of a population from generation to generation by such processes as mutation, natural selection, and genetic drift.
- A motion incomplete in itself, but combining with coordinated motions to produce a single action, as in a machine.
Hemp Chatsworth has already figured out how 90 percent of the Earth's population became what they are. Now he must find out why some of them are evolving into something else. Something more dangerous. With their families poised to grow, the stakes are now higher than ever for our friends. Each new discovery creates the need for a new defense. Hemp has his hands full as some among the zombie masses appear to be utilizing more of their grey matter in a horrifying way. Only brute force and innovation will save Flex Sheridan and his family and friends from the ever-changing zombie scourge. And it's quite possible our small band of heroes might save the world. You should come along ... it might be fun.

Better than expected!
Evolution, as in the undead are evolving. Volume four of the series finds the professor, Hemp diving deep into his research to discover the latest zombie threat, what that means to himself and his friends, and how to defeat the ever-changing infected. The infected females are getting stronger, both physically and mentally. This new telepathy ability is giving our survivors some unexpected and quite deadly problems to deal with. Gem and Charlie are preparing to bring new life into this crazy world. Everyone fears the potentially dangerous effects that the environment, the offensive mist, or the defensive solutions created by Hemp may have on the fetuses. I’m enjoying the series so far. The characters are interesting, and the action is consistent.
