Rosie Waterman has one dream: to become a working actor. But lately, that hasn't been working out. When she loses her apartment and her job on the same day, she does what she always does--puts herself out there, ready to find the next big thing. But a trip home makes her realize that while she's been struggling to make this dream come true, all her friends have become real adults with careers and weddings and babies on the way. Rosie's been at this for years, and she has nothing to show for it. But how does she simply let go of her dream?

When she's offered a job as the director of a regional theatre's production of Cinderella, she jumps at the chance—even though she's only directed in college and the job is in Door County, Wisconsin, and not in New York. She has no other offers, and at least she'll be getting paid to do something theatrical. But when she arrives, she quickly realizes that the "regional theatre" is actually in a retirement community, and the "actors" are actually senior citizens with no acting experience whatsoever.

Working on the show presents new challenges, forcing Rosie to learn how to step up and be the leader this fledgling theatre troupe needs. The more time she spends with her new cast, the more she begins to rethink what it means to dream big, especially when that big dream hasn't turned out to be at all what she thought it would be. It's not at all what she expected, but could it be exactly what she needs?

AMAZING!

I loved this book so much and the characters are so amazing. The author is extremely talented and had me extremely invested!

My favorite yet!

Every time I read Courtney Walsh’s latest book, I think to myself, “This is my new favorite!” Rosie was no exception. I loved this book for so many reasons. I related to Rosie, and I fell in love with each supporting character. I really wish they were all real. I’d love to meet each of them in person. I’ll be thinking about this story for a long time. There are some great life lessons to ponder. I can’t wait to read what Courtney Walsh writes next.

I think I have read (on audible) all of your books. this was (in my opinion) the best you have written. Don't shy away from writing about theatre--you made it come alive.

The characters are amazing! You love (or highly dislike!) each of them!! Their development throughout the story is so genuine and interesting - I fell in love with them!

Great performance, frustrating story

I didn’t love this book, at all. It started out rough, the first chapter was a downer and even a little depressing. It was obvious the FMC was being set up for character growth, so I decided to press on… and I was relieved when it started to become witty and fun… But then, wow, the endless cycles of self-absorbed introspection, on and on and on and on.

The FMC truly annoyed me, and throughout the entire book. Even the ending, which was supposed to be heartwarming, only provoked my great frustration. It was STILL completely about her, this spoiled girl who thinks only of herself requiring everyone else to give 100%, with her giving nothing, sacrificing nothing. The secondary characters were all great. She was terrible.

There were parts that were truly funny, and for that I grant the extra half star. The book had amazing potential, if only Walsh had delved into the actual development of the play rather than the FMC’s spiral of thoughts and insecurities. Watching the eclectic cast prepare for the play, learn their parts, embrace their roles? Such a missed opportunity for humor, relationship development, and feel-good sweetness. Instead the entire play was glossed over with ‘3 weeks later it was all coming together’. Sigh.

There’s no foul language, sex, or violence. The romance was limited to chaste kisses. There is no real message of faith or God.
