Publisher's summary

Written by Dan Blank, Everything Your Coach Never Told You Because You’re a Girl is one of the most inspirational stories ever written for the female athlete. Coaches and teams of all sports – from soccer to golf to equestrian – have embraced this book as the foundation for a new brand of female competitor.

Everything Your Coach Never Told You isn’t a soccer book, it’s a life book filled with competitive lessons that most girls never get the chance to hear. The edgy and passionate voice of Don Bratschie makes this audio-book jump to life with stories of a small-college soccer team that refused to conform to the warm and fuzzy image of female athletes. Listeners will join their remarkable journey from doormat to champions and feel as if they are right there in the locker room on game day, listening to a coach driving them forward into battle.

Not just for female soccer players

First off, this book is about competition. Yes, the author bases the book around his experiences as a college women's soccer coach, but lessons apply to all athletes, male and female, no matter the sport.
Secondly, this is a motivational book--about winning and defining what winning is worth to you. Each chapter is a short easy to digest segment with message illustrated by examples from his experience but also from wide world of sports. Les Brown, Vince Lombardi, Ross Perot, and Zig Zigler rolled into one for the athlete.
Definitely pick this up.

Love the book - don’t fully endorse it

Don’t love the voice. Makes it feel condescending. But I love the concept of this book. Love what the author is trying to say. I don’t fully endorse the way he goes about it. Feels outdated.

Be a bully and win at all cost. I just saved you time and money. Nothing useful.

The truth, not just girl teams, but society!

This book points out exactly what we are missing. Not only for girl teams, but the direction that we are leading our youth/ society today. Everyone gets a trophy/medal is not the direction we need to go! HEALTHY, STRONG, competition is good for the development of EVERY PLAYER.
Yes it opened my eyes about the players I have questioned, “how are they so productive on the field, but don’t have as much talent, skill wise, as others on the team?”. The players that gave 100%, that can’t comprehend losing. Sacrifice their body. They wanted to win, they did everything they could to win, that mentality gives them the edge, that mentality some of my most skilled players can never obtain. They are the ones that connect and give it all and they got your back. They are missed when they aren’t there. They love each other and even me, and mean it!
Got your back!
This book helps to affirm the coaching and team dynamics that some people are afraid of commuting too. Or are questioned when they are bringing a team up the right way!
Loved this book!! More than just a soccer coaching book! It’s about life!!
Thank you!

Wow-Floored

My daughter is 13 we have both listened to this and amazed. This resonated with the both of us but I feel she got out of it is that a lot of things dad says is true but sounds WAY better out of Dans mouth. Dad never played soccer, dad never did certain things...thanks Dan for sharing the stories of strong female athletes. My daughter is a leader and you gave her the perfect template.

Simplistic

Entertaining to listen to his life experiences while giving nuggets of valuable information. Book breaks everything down to simple understanding. You may not agree with everything he says but you cannot refute the life lessons that came out. I would 100% recommend reading.

Excellent read!

As a woman who played baseball with the boys until I was about 16, I truly identified with a lot of principles in this book. Excellent read and really a great mindset restart for anyone who has any kind of team.

Skip It

This book had three themes: (1) Girls are inherently bad competitors and must be fixed, (2) basic stuff about competition that everyone knows, and (3) awful advice that professional coaches, players, and leadership experts would deny. Not worth the time.
