WAS SHE A SWEET SOUTHERN CHARMER?
OR A COLD-BLOODED KILLER?
For their wedding portrait, petite Pat Taylor and handsome Tom Allanson posed as Rhett and Scarlett.
Both came from fine Southern families, and dreamed of the Tara-like plantation where they would grow roses, raise horses, and move in the genteel circles of Atlanta society. Less than two months later, their dream exploded in terror and murder: their beautiful home mysteriously burned to the ground and Tom was convicted of the brutal slaying of his mother and father.
Pat's only brother had died in a puzzling suicide, her grandparents-in-law were poisoned with arsenic, and no one -- from her wealthy employers to her own children -- was safe when Pat Allanson didn't get her way. It took Georgia lawmen more than two decades to stop her for good -- if indeed they have.
In this fascinating account, Ann Rule delivers a tour de force: a whirlwind of misguided love, denial, guilt, and passions out of control; a series of brilliantly manipulated crimes; the bizarre and horrifying tale of two families brought to ruin; and, at the center of it all, the heartless, supremely selfish sociopath whose evil hid behind soft words and gentle manners, but who destroyed -- without mercy -- those who loved her.©1992 Ann Rule. I kept having to speed the narration up to get through it. She talked way to slow and drawn out. The story was ok at best. Ann Rule has much better books.

The narrator talks way to slow and monotone

I have read this before and like it better and the narrator doesn't do this justices.

This is an interesting store jealous can tear families apart and I believe that is why Pat did what she did. She couldn't stand that his parents didn't like her plus she wanted everything. So many lives effect and so much pain from one women, I am so glad her husband didn't take his own life. Pat was a very bad person that didn't get what she needed to. I thought it was written well.

Betty Buckley the narrator I didn't care for at all. She pauses when she should not and doesn't pause when she should. Her character voices aren't very good. There were no repeating of words and no background noise.

The narrtor isn't very good

Ms. Buckley narrated in such a way that added to the suspense. While interesting, the story was a bit too predictable for me and I was hoping for a major plot twist. Nonetheless, the narration made for a very enjoyable listen.

Narrated to perfection

As always Ann delivers... She managed to tell a story in great detail in a small amount of time! The narrator was perfect!

Short but good

This book was fine. But not one of Ms. Rules best. Audible only offers Anne Rules books in the abridged format. So, maybe that is why I was left feeling like the story was wanting.

OK, but not one of Anne Rules best books

This is a gripping, fast moving story about a female psychopath following her nature by executing elaborate plots to gain material advantages. The story pulls you along down the labyrinth of a psychopathic mind. Deceptions, their playing out over time and their devastating effects are presented in a story that you can't stop reading.

Female Psychopath perfectly presented

The reader managed to irritate me (listen to the sample before purchasing, I know I should have). The stories manage somehow to be uninteresting.

Big disapointment and waste of credit

I absolutely detest the sound of this narrators voice. I couldn’t even finish the book.

The narrator's performance was great but the story overall could've used some more fleshing out of the background of the characters.

not impressed

Any additional comments?

I know it's and abridged version, but I've read the hardcopy and they cut out some of the most interesting things about the case. I can't complain too much, I did know I was getting an abridged version, but yikes, if other abridged books are like this, I'm amazed anyone bothers.

The narrator and I think the actual recording itself are terrible. I can't hear her well at all, no matter how much I turn up the volume, use headphones, etc. Its a very poor recording. The narrator doesn't do anything to help, she's bland and forgettable. Really, its worth just reading the actual book rather than listening to this.

So Not Worth It
