From the bestselling author of Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone, a fiendishly fun locked room (train) murder mystery that "offers a tip of the hat to the great Agatha Christie novel while at the same time being a modern reinvention of it" (Nita Prose)—perfect for fans of Richard Osman and Anthony Horowitz

When the Australian Mystery Writers’ Society invited me to their crime-writing festival aboard the Ghan, the famous train between Darwin and Adelaide, I was hoping for some inspiration for my second book. Fiction, this time: I needed a break from real people killing each other. Obviously, that didn’t pan out.

The program is a who’s who of crime writing royalty:

the debut writer (me!)

the forensic science writer

the blockbuster writer

the legal thriller writer

the literary writer

the psychological suspense writer

But when one of us is murdered, the remaining authors quickly turn into five detectives. Together, we should know how to solve a crime.

Of course, we should also know how to commit one.

How can you find a killer when all the suspects know how to get away with murder?

Editorial Review

All aboard!
I wanted to go on an outrageous, thrilling, yet fun ride with my first listen of 2024, and Everyone on This Train Is a Suspect delivered! As soon as I read the premise I thought, yes, put me on a train with a group of mystery writers, agents, publishers, editors, and fans as we journey from Darwin to Adelaide to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Australian Mystery Writers’ Society. Of course, someone onboard ends up dead. Which expert sleuth will figure it out first? Whodunit? This is where the fun is. A telltale sign of a good story: As soon as I finished, I immediately downloaded Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone—where author Benjamin Stevenson first introduces his main character, Ernest Cunningham. I hear there might be a movie or TV show coming (rights have been secured), and I sure hope a third novel is in the works. —Tricia F., Audible Editor

In a time overrun with unreliable narrators (I can’t remember the last BOTM Club choice where the book description didn’t list “unreliable narrator” in the overview) it is refreshing to have a mystery we can listen to (or read) that fairly shares clues to logically arrange providing a slight chance to solve it before the final reveal. It makes mystery reading FUN again.
The clever way clues are dropped make this book un-put-down-able!

Good book with a good narrator. You don’t need to read the first to enjoy the sequel

Sequels can be good

The performance is just fantastic, soothing but entertaining voice. I even listened to the acknowledgements. The accents have improved since the last book, too, which is nice to hear.

As for the story, I think it's just as good as the first one. Dry humor, but it hits just right. The mystery was compelling and the explanation at the end was very clever. I also appreciated the empathy Stevenson showed to his characters and the very real issues they go through. 10/10

Fun mystery, great performance

This book is not only brilliant, it’s also fun and hilarious! Ernest Cunningham is back and I loved every minute of it.

Top Notch Sequel

I downloaded this book maybe 2 hours after finishing the author’s previous novel, and now that I’m done with this one too… I’m just annoyed that there aren’t more books?!? What am I supposed to do now?? In all seriousness though, don’t hesitate to get this book. I would recommend reading the prequel first, but I don’t think you’d miss out too much if you read them in reverse order. I truly love everything about both books, and am now craving more of this author’s exact writing style and humor.

Need more from this author!!!

Another great read/listen. Hard to stop once you start. Consummately entertaining with a complex mystery & Ernest’s charming sense of humor & fair play. Keep’em coming!!

As Good As The First

if you're someone who tears apart clues and keeps a notebook of notes, the author writes for you. he's humorous at times, but never made me laugh, they landed flat. I don't know if the payoff and reason why was worth listening for so many hours.

Not my jam

An excellent, well-crafted, creative mystery, with a good dash of humor, interesting characters, and a captivating storytelling style. Note the Oxford comma.

Clever story telling style

A wonderful follow up to the author’s previous work but also works well as a stand alone adventure. Love this modern mystery presented in classic way. Very effective and brings the reader right into the mix of investigators. Get a pencil. You will be tempted to take notes and play detective!

Great Fun

I love how the story is told! And the characters are varied and entertaining. There’s just a whole lot of them. I had some trouble keeping up with the who’s who and kinda wished I’d taken notes. Ha! For me, the story seemed to end too quickly.

I wish there was more!
