This book is exactly what you expect given the title. A wonderful romp through the history of the most important award for modern boardgames, brilliantly narrated.

Great history of the Speil de Jahres

James has a great voice and tone for this history and commentary on the Speil. I really enjoyed his insights into the games that won and sometimes the questions that came with their win.

Engaging and interesting history of board games!

As an avid board gamer, I really enjoyed this history of board games. Using the "Spiel des Jahres" award as a way to structure the content works really well, and provides for some interesting side notes on this award in addition to the games themselves. The author's narration is very engaging as well.
