Publisher's summary

From the number-one New York Times best-selling McElroy Brothers, creators of the hit podcasts My Brother, My Brother and Me and The Adventure Zone, comes a helpful and hilarious how-to podcast guide covering everything you need to know to make, produce, edit, and promote a podcast...and get rich* doing it! (*Results not guaranteed.)

Justin, Travis, and Griffin McElroy made their names as “advice giving brothers who have no business giving advice” (New York Times) on the hit podcast My Brother, My Brother and Me. But while they may not have the best relationship or workplace advice, they certainly make you laugh, and they do know a thing or two about podcasting.

In fact, the McElroy Brothers have spent the last decade making podcasts, including My Brother, My Brother and Me; The Adventure Zone; Sawbones; and more. From their start, independently producing and releasing the early episodes of My Brother, My Brother and Me, to their 11 currently available podcasts, the McElroys have become experts in creating successful podcasts. And now, they want to share what they’ve learned with you.

In Everybody Has a Podcast (Except You), the McElroy Brothers will walk you through the process of turning an idea into ear candy for legions of fans, sharing their expertise on everything from deciding on an effective name (definitely not something like My Brother, My Brother and Me), to what type of microphone to use (definitely not one from the video game Rock Band), to making lots and lots of money (spoiler: you probably won’t).

A must-listen for anyone interested in podcasting, Everybody Has a Podcast (Except You) shares the keys to success as well as the mistakes to avoid and draws on the vast experiences of three of the funniest and most successful podcasters working today.

its fine, but full of vagueness

as always the McElroy Family make an entertaining product. however, the tips and tricks given are, as most self-help or "how to break into an industry" books are, backed up with caveats, maybes and vague hints.

I am sure this will help newbies but not those deep in the podcast game.

Excellent Information Delivered McElroy Style

I'm not exactly a podcast veteran, but I used to audio engineer for a tech company, including their podcast, and I've done some podcasting myself. About a year ago I paid a college buddy of mine that works in radio and produces multiple podcasts for a class to refresh me on the stuff I never had to deal with just doing recording booth setup and editing. I bring that up because Everyone Has a Podcast covers a lot of that information for a fraction of the price. My latest podcast stalled after four episodes when COVID hit, but we're looking to bring it back very soon. Listening to this book gave me a Thai boxer kick of motivation, and I definitely learned a few new things as well. Money well spent. Make 2021: Big Dog Run the year you finally get your podcast off the ground!

Humble, humiliating and Hilarious

I cannot stress the love I have for this book and the care the boys put into their craft. Ths is such a well-thought out and easy to understand guide for something that can be extremely overwhelming. Thank you.

Very Entry Level

Made for people who know genuinely nothing about podcasts. If you’re looking for something more in depth or advanced, look elsewhere. Still entertaining though

The Definitive Edition

If you’ve ever listened to any of the McElroy family’s shows, then you’ll know that listening to the book is the best way to experience it. I mean, Justin even uses a clip of the ocean audio from his Empty Bowl podcast. Really though, a great book written by a family that continues to set the example of accessibility and transparency in their art. Big ups to Jezo.

A Good A-in-One for Beginners

It's nice to have all of this information bundled up into one package, but it never goes deeper than a high level explanation (except for an odd dive into the use of Audacity. Griffin, you monster). It's a good read for anyone just starting in any form of media, and there is a lot that applies to those interested in YouTube or Music as well, but for those who have already dipped their toes into the water, or have experience in those related mediums, this will be more of a refresher. Admittedly, this isn't advertised as anything beyond a primer for beginners, so the complaint is minor.

My only other criticism is that the performance is mostly flat. This is fine given the nature of the material, but for someone who has listened to hundreds of hours of the McElroys across numerous podcasts, I was hoping for this to feel more conversational.

All that said, it's great to get as many perspectives as are included here, and there are some genuine nuggets to extract.

The McElBoys are always fun.

I have no intentions of starting a podcast and I still enjoyed listening to the McElroy family tell me how. They're funny, helpful, thoughtful, and informative, and I'd listen again.

The perfect how to guide, made funny.

Great book, very informative, and I laughed way too much for how much I learned.

Only podcast book I need

I’ve bought this twice because I lost my first audible account. I’m trying to get into podcasting and this book helped me form an idea that I will be recording soon
