For those who witnessed the global collapse of socialism, its resurrection in the 21st century comes as a surprise, even a shock. How can socialism work now when it has never worked before? In this pathbreaking audiobook, best-selling author Dinesh D’Souza argues that the socialism advanced today by the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, Ilhan Omar, and Elizabeth Warren is very different from the socialism of Lenin, Mao, and Castro.

America is hopelessly divided, but more worryingly, the ideas and “mystic chords of memory” that rest at the cornerstone of our civilization and bind the generations are being severed, attacked, and forgotten. The left has set out to shatter these bonds with a war on American history - the fundamental concepts, institutions, and icons that make our country what it is. And we have failed to protect our history, allowing Hollywood, educators, and the media to rewrite the story of America. We have ignored the invaluable lessons of our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.

Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

In 2009, Mark R. Levin galvanized conservatives with his unforgettable manifesto Liberty and Tyranny, by providing a philosophical, historical, and practical framework for halting the liberal assault on Constitution-based values. That book was about standing at the precipice of progressivism’s threat to our freedom, and now, over a decade later, we’re fully over that precipice and paying the price. In American Marxism, Levin explains how the core elements of Marxist ideology are now pervasive in American society and culture.

America is great for a reason. Built on principles of freedom, rugged individualism, and self-sufficiency, no country has ever accumulated more power and wealth, abused it less, or used that power more to advance the human condition. And yet, as America blossomed, left-wing radicalism and resentment festered beneath the surface, threatening to undermine democracy in the form of social justice warriors, the deep state, and compromised institutions like academia and the mainstream media.

From Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States to the New York Times' 1619 project, the modern Left views American history through the lens of competing oppressions, replacing the traditional understanding that all Americans are part of a shared journey toward the perfection of universal ideals. Their attacks on the values that built our nation, from the rights to free speech and self-defense to the importance of marriage and faith communities, are insidious because they replace each of them with nothing beyond an increased reliance on the government.

Who is killing America? Is it really Donald Trump and a GOP filled with white supremacists? In this audiobook, Dinesh D’Souza makes the provocative case that Democrats are the ones killing America by turning it into a massive nanny state modeled on the Southern plantation system. Death of a Nation's bracing alternative vision of American history explains the Democratic Party's dark past, reinterprets the roles of figures like Van Buren, FDR, and LBJ, and exposes the hidden truth that racism comes not from Trump or the conservative right but rather from Democrats.

Publisher's Summary
Remember America? There may come a time when no one will.
In Erasing America: Destroying Our Future by Erasing Our Past, James Robbins reveals that the radical left controls education, the media, and the Democratic Party...and they seek to demean, demolish, and relentlessly attack America's past in order to control America's present.
This toxic movement has already brainwashed an entire generation and is rapidly changing the cultural, historical, and spiritual bonds of our nation. American exceptionalism, history, and patriotism are a magnificent legacy, Robbins warns, but to pass it on to our children, we must view the past with understanding, the present with gratitude, and the future with hope.
Wondering if it's really that bad? Here are some facts you'll learn in Erasing America:
- At Yale, residential Calhoun College is being renamed after students complained about the pro-slavery sentiments of John C. Calhoun.
- In Massachusetts, Simmons College claims saying "God bless you" is an "Islamophobic microaggression".
- In Virginia, school districts seek to ban To Kill a Mockingbird and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn because parents complained about the racial slurs in the books.
- Across the country, Christmas songs and movies are labeled as racist and sexist - and banned.
- In California, a San Francisco school district wants to rename George Washington High School because our first president owned slaves.
- In Arkansas, a monument engraved with the 10 Commandments was smashed to smithereens by a protester in a Dodge Dart.
- And in parks and squares across the South, statues of confederate generals and soldiers are disappearing.
Robbins wants you to understand the critical situation in America and to use Erasing America to equip your fellow Americans against this leftist propaganda - before it's too late!

The Far Right is as Bad as The Radical Left
I was hoping to listen to an intelligent argument against the Radical Left. Instead, I listened to a ridiculous argument that comes from the Far Right.
I am a Democrat but I am not part of the Radical Left, at all. I think they are anti-intellectual because they seek to erase our American Story. But, I think the Far Right, in James Robbins case, getting stuck in the American Story that is and was part of the American public school indoctrination, which has historical roots from when we decided to copy the Prussian Education System (Today’s Germany) in the mid-1800s. If this book represents the far right, it is as equally anti-intellectual as the radical left.
No professor told me how I learned U.S. History was wrong. On the contrary—I learned it myself. It happened in college but it happened while I was researching for an American History class. I wasn’t allowed to use secondary resources for a particular project. Everything I researched were primary resources. I read 120 year old newspaper articles and pieced it together myself.
A professor did not make me look at history differently. I read current events from 120 years ago, which made me realize the history I was taught in k-12 was whitewashed. But, as whitewashed as it is, George Washington HS needs to keep its name. We should never erase our history. It is the American Story, which in its entirety, is remarkable and beautiful.
If we are to move on as a country, we need to be critical of the voices that come from both the radical left and the far right.
This book is too opinionated, too monolithic.

Great Insight
Yes, I know this book is a little over 2 years old, but everything I heard is true and can be fact checked. Almost everything Mr. Robbins has said has become progressively worse in Feb. of 21....We are losing our 1st Amendment rights, they are canceling out or censoring everyone that does not agree with them. and in just about 3 weeks Biden has already severely damaged this country. I know the left will totally disagree with this book and what is now happening to our country, but soon it will hit home with them. I think John McLain did a good job narrating....Conservatives read this book, but if you follow the political landscape, there will be things you already know. but it is still a good book.

Leaves something to be desired
A friend recently sent me a five-minute video of James Robbins (the author of this book) talking about the degradation of American pride / values. I was compelled by the video, so, naturally, I looked him and his book up, and eventually grabbed a copy. I was really excited to see what he had to say.
In the end, unfortunately, I don't think it was all that much, and that makes me feel, well, disappointed. I was expecting a lot from this title, but walked away feeling like it didn't provide much more insight than the five-minute video did. To me, this book is essentially a rant, during which, the author recounts endless stories of violence, injustice, and the rewriting of history, spurred by political correctness, outrage culture, and the loss of American pride.
The problem with the book is not this stance itself. I think it's a very important one to talk about these days, especially since it's often overshadowed by fervent political correctness. The problem here is with the delivery and lack of depth. After I'd finished the first half of the book, I thought to myself, "Wow, it kind of seems like the author is just recounting stories and complaining. Hopefully he goes deeper and gets into conclusion and suggestion mode soon."
Unfortunately, for me, the book and author never really got there. Instead, what we get is story after story telling us how the degradation of American culture has spilled into sports, holidays, school, and the like. I know these stories are infuriating for a lot of people, but after a certain point, they feel like overkill.
For me, all of this recounting was just too repetitive, surface-level, and basic. I think most of us have heard these progressive horror stories before. What I'm more curious about is what we should make of them or what we should do in response to them. Sadly, the author spends little time answering such questions.
I guess you could say that I'm actually disappointed because I'm mostly on the author's side here. I'm annoyed with PC, cancel, and outrage culture as well. I think they've done more harm than good and have pulled Americans even further apart from one another. Yet, even being on his side, I can't help but feel like the author is mostly just complaining here.
All of that said, this book isn't terrible, by any means. It brings to light many injustices caused by a dwindling of American pride. The problem, in my mind, is that it actually provides too many examples without going deeper at any point. For an illustration of what I'm referring to / wanted this book to be like, take a look at "The Coddling of the American Mind" by Jonathan Haidt and Greg Lukianoff. It says just about everything this book should've.

Hits home with facts, narrator is a big miss
The story is interesting take on current events and really hits home with lots of facts. I'm just struggling with the narrator, John McLain!!!! It's slightly, just slightly better than listening to a robo-narration. Somehow Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller's Day Off keeps popping into my head while listening. Might just buy the softbound or Kindle version and be done with this miserable Audible version. I want my credit back!!!

A contemporary review of history.
A highly recommended read/listen for the academia sphere. A superb rundown of our nation's history as it is sought to be torn down and erased. The comparisons of what we are seeing today to.what we went through in the past is quite amazing and Robbins and McLain lays it out well.
