Wow

What an amazing story and gifted narration. Riveting, I am sure I will be revisiting this book.

Beautiful writing

The writer tells these story of a fragmented people beautifully. Masterfully blending story of Hamlet into the life of its performers , how it means so much more than a play is noticeable and how the historical & daily struggles of the inhabitants of the land just to live an ordinary life is so fueled with strong emotions like in the story of the play.

Contrast Israel/palestine

I found this book very interesting and thought provoking. It didn’t really take sides just seemed to portray the situation. I don’t really like the end and thought it was a bit of a cop out, but perhaps it has to and that way ie same old same old with no resolution to the situation.

So many gripping story lines!

I read The Parisian and loved it. Enter Ghost may be completely different, but the common themes of searching for self and national identity, the challenges of love and family run across both books. Sonja is a reflective and fascinating narrator whose honesty and reflexivity I could not get enough of. Gammas makes every scene come alive with detail so the story is a film running before our eyes. The turmoil of Palestine and the heartless occupation is the backdrop and the foreground.

Timely story told through Shakespeare in Palestine

Creative and elegant use of several languages. The view from inside Israel and Palestine as a therapeutic drama company performs Hamlet. Lovely narration. You are there.

Mounting Hsmlet in Palestine from the Palestinian Perspective

Excellent use of Hamlet to illuminate the plight of the Palestinians. The difficulties mounting the play is a microcosm of the difficulties encountered by Palestinians in the West Bank. It is refreshing and enlightening to see this story through the eyes of a Palestinian.

Slow start good finish

Very slow start. Hard to get interested in the characters. But gradually picks up speed and the last part is really absorbing . Marvelous to have these accounts of life in Palestine under occupation at this moment

The very age and body of the time

Nadia Albina's reading is astonishing: a profoundly developed and nuanced performance of a complex and urgently important narrative.

Outstanding

This is one of the best books I have ever read. The writing is incredible—insightful, caring, while being able to create outstanding impact in the characters and through the setting. I recommend doing a quick watch or reread of Hamlet if it’s been awhile.

I loved the narrative style. The first person perspective allowed Hamad to weave the story as tapestry in the moment and in the mind of the narrator, going seamlessly through the present time to memories.

I can’t believe this book hasn’t gotten more press, though I fear it’s due to this being a powerful Palestinian story in the context of apartheid. It is able to tackle and address so much nuance quickly, it’s impressive.

The book does delicate work of creating a strong sense of place on both sides of the wall, giving characters room to develop and grow, and exploring powerful themes of art and resistance, family and trauma, and grief and loss. Hamlet is used not only in plot but also as a tool in foreshadowing and metaphor.

I started bawling at the last line: one of the most powerful endings I’ve read.
