Publisher's summary

In this low angst, a sweet retelling of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Bennet is not just idle, he is actively cruel. And Mrs. Bennet, while still uneducated, must do whatever she can to protect her daughters from their father.
Mr. Darcy’s epiphany comes much earlier than in canon and it changes his relationships not only with the Bennets but with his sister, his cousin Anne, and Bingley.
When the Bennet matriarch moves to an estate outside of Bath with her daughters, Bingley follows and so do both Darcy siblings.

Enjoyed it. I need a read narrator to redo this.

What an awful Mr. Bennett.
Glad you to see a clever Mrs. Bennett. Another explanation for her being flighty.
I would definitely purchase this one with human narrators to bring it to life.

Enjoyable despite virtual voice

I enjoyed this story so much I wish it was given an actual narrator. I would have happily paid a credit for it to be properly read. That being said, the virtual voice isn’t terrible and I may listen a second time.

Good people win.

The virtual voice kills what may be a really good story. If a real narrator reads this, I might consider buying it.

Virtual voice narration

I’ll always love a story about Lizzy and Darcy coming together but this wasn’t really about that. Their relationship or any of the others wasn’t the focal point of the book. That is fine. The real downer is the virtual voice. And it’s for all books with virtual voice not just this one. I have tried overcoming it by speeding up the reading to 1.35x which has helped but unfortunately you’ll never be able to get the emotion from the voice.

New take on Mr Bennet’s character

Here is another excellent variation by Victoria Lynn that I hope we eventually have narrated by a voice actor. The story does not revolve around Lizzy & Darcy so much as the Bennet women who are trauma bonded by Mr Bennet’s subtle abuse and his sabotage of the estate.
This retelling is clean with thought provoking themes of verbal and psychological abuse. It is a reminder of the powerlessness of the female sex during that time.
I wasn’t ready for this one to end.

Seemed like another AI written book with an AI narrator no one programmed correctly.

First, there is no way a human who like P&P even remotely listened to this to check for flaws. I almost went insane with the mispronunciation of Rosings Park…said as Rossings, and Lady Catherine de Bough (yeah, like a tree branch). Maria is spelled as Maria but pronounced as Mariah as any fan knows. But the worst part isn’t even the tragic mispronouncing but the total lifelessness. I wanted to give the virtual voice thing a try, but I think we might be a bit premature in using it for a narration of this sort. More life please and have someone listen to it who is human who can tell you about mispronunciation as well as a bunch of what would be typos in a written transcript. The plot was so bland. There’s zero love and zero life in this book; just a series of events.

Boring anachronistic insipid

Worst JAFF ever. The mispronounced words are the best part. Poorly written. Save yourself and skip this one.
