Publisher's Summary

This is a standalone.

After a phone call changes my life, I shut the world out. I'm paralyzed by the fear gripping me; the darkness becomes inescapable. When I refuse to open my door, my best friend goes to the most notorious man in town. Bruno's known to everyone in the neighborhood - he's feared and only spoken about in whispers. Only there's a problem: After he breaks down my door, he doesn't want to leave.

I never expected to find a man with a heart bigger than his reputation. But just like illusions, things are never what they seem. With fear surrounding me, only he can chase away the shadows.

This isn't your typical love story - it's a story of fight and survival. Most importantly, it's about finding the light and basking in the rays.

Very sweet alternative love story

I will start with all the positive. This alternative love story is told so sweetly in its own special way. The characters were well developed and I can tell that a lot of cancer research was done with this book. Time passed quickly and I really grew attached to this book.

For the negative there are 2 very big book sins that were committed, in my opinion. #1 Holes. Although we knew Bruno was not in a legal profession, it was not something that should not have been addressed AT ALL. There was way too much focus on it for it to not have caused a complication in the book or for it to have been found out. I hate holes in plots. #2 The cover & description. I know it's lame to judge a book by it's cover, but the cover literally has nothing to do with the book and doesn't represent it at all. As is the description.

So if you are going to read this book, and I DO recommend reading it, please know that this is a story of a woman who finds out she has cancer. She is essentially alone in this world until Bruno shows up and literally forces himself into her life. It is sweet and not raunchy and cheap like the cover suggests.

Erin Mallon is a narrating Goddess. Her tone, inflections, character voices... All of it. Magical and perfection. Lance was only in the epilogue and prologue and I could have lived without his voice. Erin's male voice was way sexier and possessive and alpha.

Difficult to finish

Wow, I can't believe I finished it. The main female lead was possibly the most self obsessed and selfish character ever. Not once (until the epilogue) did she once worry or show empathy towards anyone. She was terrible and for her not even to remember their first meeting was just incredible. I honestly have no clue what Bruno saw in her at all. I understand she was going through a lot but the simple fact that she took no one else's feelings into consideration EVER was just staggering. She was even terrible to the nurses during chemo. What did they do? Not to mention she kept up with her prejudiced judgments over Bruno when he showed her nothing but true compassion and love. I hated her character.

I hate Erin Mallon, but aside heroine sucks

Bratty, brat, brat, brat brat. I cannot stand this female loser character. Cancer survivors go through a great deal. this dumb idiot makes a mockery of this process. She is a first rate narcissistic fool and deserves to be alone, frankly. Also, Leukemia doesn't GROW....it is produced via blood marrow. Cheeks Bliss needs to research some crap before she writes about it.

Depressing

Very depressing story. Hardly any love story. Main character extremely narrow minded, shallow and selfish. Are all people in their 30's that self involved? Erin Mallon does a great job at that character as she always sounds breathy and whiney. And Lance Greenfield? He is at the beginning and the end and that's it. Nothing in between. That's depressing. The male character and his family were the only good things about the story. Read if you have the escape package but don't waste a credit on this.

Great listen, emotional story...

The book starts with Cal getting slammed with some news that puts her into an emotional tail spin and Bruno steps in to help her. Bruno is a known criminal and an all around scary guy with his dominating presence and strong, eerily-quiet demeanor. But when Bruno steps in to help Cal, she sees a whole other side to him. Cal has to decide which is the real Bruno and in the end, if it even matters to her.
If I had to pick a downside to this book it would be her relationship with her best friend. She basically pushes her away the entire book and the best friend is extremely gullible and doesn't seem to know Cal at all. However I really like the new relationships that Cal gains with Bruno's family.
The narration is very well done. 95% of the narration is done by Erin Mallon and she does a great job with all the voices. I have listened to her in other books and she always does well.
Lots of emotional story here including not only in the present but also in their pasts. Be prepared for a lot of feels!
Would definitely recommend for a credit/buy.

DNF

Story begins with heroine having leukemia and it’s so depressing, I couldn’t finish.

Could be a great story with likable characters but it’s not for me.

One drunk night changes Everything

When you're at the top of your game something always comes and knocks you off rocker. That one word can change everything. This a gripping story of love and courage and compassion. I'm once again amazed by the writing of Chelle Bliss

Awful

The female lead is probably the most selfish character I've ever encountered. I loathe her. Bruno seems to be the outline of a good character, but was never fully developed. There is BARELY any story about their relationship which makes it an actual "relationship". ZERO connection. The narration was not much better. It felt stilted and she was constantly affecting a "breathlessly shocked" tone and it was incredibly irritating.

I have a compulsion to finish books once started, but I came incredibly close to stopping this one.

Heartbreakingly Beautiful

Where does Enshrine rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Is up there with the rest. This is the first time I heard Lance and Erin and they did a tremendous job.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bruno! without the shadow of a doubt, he is strong, beautiful and so damn sexy!

What about Lance Greenfield and Erin Mallon ’s performance did you like?

They both did a very good job with the story. Lets not forget this is a very strong and difficult topic to read about, and having to heard the characters made it even more special, that is what a good voice Actor does. The transitions were good and they kept the flow of the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!

Any additional comments?

Chelle Bliss took a gamble with this book, it is raw and real, not a lot of people like reading about the BIG "C", however she handled the story beautifully and gave us an insight into how someone who has been told their life is about to change drastically would react. But also she has given us hope and courage to face this kind of scenario and has showed us the incredible power of LOVE. Powerful and romantic!

Wow

What a beautiful story, the synopsis didn't indicate it would be this explicit about illness but it was excellent and beautifully narrated with both Lance and Erin lending so much emotion to the story.
It was also refreshing to have a beautiful accomplished lead lady in her 30s. (I'm getting tired of the genre only targeting 20 yr olds, like life and romance stop before you reach 30??? Or you can only experience life's dilemmas in that decade), Chelle Bliss did a really good job with this storyline.

A must read/listen...

Would you consider the audio edition of Enshrine to be better than the print version?

No, I liked both. The narrators were very easy to listen to & I would find myself following a.long in print when I wasn’t busy. Otherwise I listened to the audible.

What other book might you compare Enshrine to, and why?

There is no book I’ve read which compares! It is in a league of its own! And I’ve read a lot of books.

Which character – as performed by Lance Greenfield and Erin Mallon – was your favourite?

I liked all the characters! As a secondary character I liked Lee the H sister, although Bruno’s mother was a hoot!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were many moments! & I don’t really want to say & spoil the book, this is a definite must read/listen!

Any additional comments?

This book will touch a lot of people, especially those who have battled cancer! This is a heart breaking disease & this book sheds some light on what those who have dealt with cancer go through whether as a support person or patient.
