Publisher's summary

If you are interested in this book, chances are you know that you are in an abusive relationship and want out. You may be looking for help to decide what to do next. You may be looking for information about what you can do about your situation. You may be ready to leave but are unsure how to go about it. You may not even be sure if you are being abused, but you have a feeling that something isn't quite right at home or with your significant other.

This book aims to give you all the answers you need to decide if you are in an abusive relationship and what you should do if you are. This book will help you decide whether you are being abused, how the abuse can affect you and others around you, and what you can do to get out of an abusive situation.

There are no easy answers to abuse. Oftentimes, people who are caught in the cycle of abuse may feel like they have no way out. They may feel like they don't deserve any better than what they currently have. They may feel like a complete failure for letting their life spiral so far out of control that they don't even know what to do next. They often blame themselves for the abuse, and therefore, because it is their fault, they can't even imagine that there is a way out. They may not be able to see a way out at all.

You may feel that these words describe you perfectly. Feeling trapped is common. To make a change in an abusive relationship takes a lot of courage and a lot of strength, plus some help. But I am here to tell you that you deserve better than being abused. You deserve to be happy, to be treated well, and to pursue your dreams. You deserve to get out and rebuild your life. I will not promise quick or easy answers. What I will talk about is how you can start rebuilding your life beginning now. Take back your life, and you'll be so happy you did.

Good book for Women (only)

As a man who has experienced this, it has an overarching resonance. But it is definitely written for women only.

If you’re female - it’s a good read.

If you’re male - not enough insight into our areas of opportunity when we are the victim of domestic abuse and violence.

wow..... I don't think it is helpful to use he for the abuser and she for the victim...

not worth the time

Just emotional abuse?! Minimizing emotional abuse is never helpful . Emotional abuse is just as damaging as other forms of abuse.

Pass

The author writes that it would have been too difficult to use both male and female pronouns. I'm not sure how using just the female being the abused and the male being the abuser was any easier. Clearly a bias in her prose.
The narrator sounded curt. Her voice was brash and jaded and was not one of somebody I'd enjoy listening to ever.

Your significant other…?

Way to go trying to uplift a woman’s confidence by calling them a half, not whole, by implementing and repeating through the entire book stating that their abuser/lover is their “significant other”.

Two steps forward. One step back.

Good as a first step

I feel this book has a lot of information for someone who for the first time is contemplating leaving an abusive situation. But the title is misleading because “Enough!” sounds as if you have already been trying to leave and this book would help you finally do it for good. It gave me anxiety as many things didn’t directly apply to me, and I kept anticipating the parts that would (which didn’t always come). Even though it mentions a variety of types of abuse, I think the advice mostly focuses on physical. Overall, is a great first step for someone who has never left, but I wouldn’t recommend it for people that are struggling in the process of separation or who have suffered emotional abuse (not physical).

Excellent info, tips, and strategies, albeit a bit dated

This audiobook is dated 2016, and let’s face it, no matter how you look at it, the past seven years have seen a lot of change here in the USA. For example, the VAWA, violence against women act, was not renewed. Even if this wasn’t the case, being an immigrant, document or otherwise, living or working in an abusive situation has radically changed within our borders. Additionally, the author clarifies many times that police are there to protect you. Per multiple SCOTUS rulings going back as far as the 1980s have stated that this is NOT their function. As such, I’d be hesitant to assume that they’d be a safe space for women in bad situations.

That said, the resources and tools stated may be a good starting point for research. Probably the best piece of advice in this book is to start learning the options available to you before they’re needed.

Very helpful.

Why are the cops and court people not educated on this. They refused to help me after so many times.
