Publisher's summary

A standalone prequel to the best-selling Eagle Elite series.

Joyce loves Luca. Luca loves Joyce. Frank loves his family and will do anything to protect it, even if it means taking away his brother's reason for existing. Falling takes only one step, one movement of the chess piece, and in Joyce's fall she took more than just one heart with her.

Go back to the beginning, where the drama of the Elect all starts. Go back to the first part of the story, where true love tried to conquer all. Where true love failed.

Great prequel and narration

First off, the prequel was a really great set up and I'm looking forward to the rest of the books. Second, I have to say, as I was listening, I was TOTALLY CONFUSED because Luca's voice reminded me of Teddy Hamilton who pretty much tops my favorite narrators list. So, I did a search and lo and behold, Andrew Eiden is a pseudonym of TH. (or vice versa). Anyway, The point being that this was a fantastic start to the series with strong narrators (yes the other narrators were really great too) and it gave you an idea of what the future of this mob family is. I'm so excited to read and listen to the rest of the series!

Back to the beginning !

See where it all began! Rachel Van Dyken takes us to the beginning of an incredible series. Starting out with two soulmates ~ Joyce & Luca. This is their beginning. Narrators Nicol Zanzarella, Jeremy York, Andrew Eiden, & Keith Szarabajka bring to life their story. Although it is short, it packs an emotional punch! Loved reading this series and I love it even more on Audible!

Great backstory to the series!

This novella was a great backstory to the Eagle Elite series. I loved how it tied in with the series. The narration was very well done!

Mob Life

So when I started this novella I was all in. I love a good mob story. Luca and Frank are two brothers who love the same woman. I do not normally love a love triangle story but I forgave it because MOB Story.

I loved the way this novella was written. I love when an author has the story as a diary. When it is written that way it makes me feel as though I am living the life of the one writing the diary. This entire was heartbreaking not only for Joyce, the MC, but also for both Frank and Luca. Both brothers lost something they care about. For Frank it was his brother and for Luca it was Joyce.

Even though this was a quick listen I got a lot of information. What threw me off was the fact the series is about a college. I have never listened or read anything from Rachel Van Dyken so I did not know this series was about a college. I was expecting some more mob life but I was wrong. I think I am going to listen to the first book just to see what this series is about because I loved the prequel.

sad but draws you in

short and not so sweet. Everything about this was sad. definitely not your HEA. definitely made me want to see what happens next though. I had rate it high but I love books that make me happy and laugh. this was not that so I couldn't say 5. very good for what it is. peace

Small novella

This is the story of Frank and Joyce, Trace’s grandparents and Luca. Although interesting, I have enjoyed the other books much more than this one. I’m not sure if it was because it was a short novella and there wasn’t too much depth or if it was because it dealt with the older mafia.
