Publisher's Summary

"Elvis, you and I know the truth and unfortunately you’re not here to set the record straight. With this book, I will try to.…"

Elvis Presley and Graceland were fixtures in the life of Ginger Alden, having been born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. But she had no idea that she would play a part in that enduring legacy - as Elvis Presley’s fiancée, and his last great love. For over three decades Ginger has held the truth of their relationship close to her heart. Now she shares her unique story, and while a lot has been written about the King, the Elvis we meet in this long-anticipated memoir is a revelation.

In her own words Ginger details their whirlwind romance - from first kiss to his stunning proposal of marriage. She details his exploration of Eastern religions, his perception of being a "legend", his devotion to family and friends, and her attempt to know the insular group surrounding Elvis. And for the very first time she talks about the devastating end of it all, and the 50,000 mourners and reporters who descended on Graceland in 1977, exposing Ginger to the reality of living in the spotlight of a short, yet immortal, life.

Above it all, Alden rescues Elvis from the hearsay, rumors, and tabloid speculations of his final year by shedding a frank yet personal light on a very public legend. From a unique and intimate perspective, she reveals the man - complicated, romantic, fallible, and human - behind the enduring myth, a superstar worshipped by millions, and loved by Ginger Alden.

I enjoyed this but not much is new here.

Any additional comments?

I have been an Elvis fan since I was a small child. I remember where I was and how I felt shocked and a broken hearted to hear the news that he had passed away. As the years since then have passed I have read everything I could get my hands on about The King.

In this book I did not find anything enlightening or new to anything I have read before.

I dont feel that Ginger was the love of Elvis' life but I did appreciate her account of their life together. She read well and there is an honest feel about her side of the story.

FINALLY THE TRUTH ABOUT ELVIS AND GINGER! LOVE IT!

What did you love best about Elvis and Ginger?

I loved it all! Great Read! It was told with much honesty and depth and I believe Ginger not others who were not there but act like they were or others who were there but not behind closed doors with Elvis and Ginger.

What did you like best about this story?

The entire story from start to finish. It was a very poignant and tragic love story. I felt as though I was in the room with Ginger and Elvis.

What about Ginger Alden’s performance did you like?

She spoke clearly and precise and very heartfelt filled with much emotion in every word spoken.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh and cry as I felt for Ginger and Elvis and their great love in their relationship.

Any additional comments?

I would highly recommend this to anyone who loved Elvis to fully understand for once what really happened the last 9 months of his life and to understand Ginger and how she loved him in trying to help him and not leave him like others did. It spoke volumes of Ginger's character and I have nothing but the highest respect for this woman who was Elvis's fiancee and the last person to see him alive.

The best Elvis book!

Ginger paints a picture of life with Elvis like nobody else! Her words are so real and true, that nobody has ever been able to contradict them or refute them. She would have been his wife had he lived. Her fairytale 9 months with him were ended without warning one afternoon on August 16 1977. God bless you Ginger, they all know what the real truth is, they just won't admit it.

Jealous of Linda and Priscilla

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

If you haven't read many Elvis' books, you might just believe the lies Ginger wrote in her book.

What could Ginger Alden have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Ginger clearly talked about her marriage plans with Elvis in great details, yet it seems like it was her only wishful thinking. I don't believe Elvis wanted to really marry her. Elvis gave diamond rings to many people and I believe Ginger exaggerated a lot.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She detracted from reality. Elvis never announced her engagement to her publicly!

Any additional comments?

Ginger talked a lot about Linda--which clearly showed how jealous she was with Linda. Linda was someone really special to Elvis after Priscilla. Ginger tried very hard to convince her reader that Elvis was serious with her. She used Elvis to give money to her parents and she had nerves to mention more than once that Linda was a high maintenance girl. This a girl who didn't have any guilt making Elvis pay for her parents' house mortgage! I do not like Ginger at all and I regret buying this book. Waste of my $

Elvis and Ginger

This memoir was much better to read than Linda Thompson's memoir. It seemed more truthful and a lot less self glorifying. Ginger Alden comes across as down to earth and as someone who truly cared about Elvis. I imagine it was not always easy for her to be with a much older and high profile super star at such a tender age. I truly enjoyed this book.

Facinating

You can tell this book was written with love. Ginger's bizarre life with Elvis seemed rather boring at times. I almost struggled to see what her attraction was. Her life revolved around Elvis, losing her touch with reality including her job and friends in the process. (I suppose this is why he liked younger girls who would be willing to sacrifice their world for his). This book was slow at times, but as we got closer to the end I couldn't stop listening. I'm a huge Lisa Marie Presley fan and it was a nice glimpse into who she was as a child. I appreciated learning more about Lisa.
The day of his death is explained and my heart broke for Ginger. If you are an Elvis fan, this is a good listen. She's kind and does him no disservice with her version of their story.

A Fast Read - I Enjoyed It

Ginger comes across as someone who is very ethical and down-to-earth. No signs of ego in her, she gives an honest portrayal of her brief time with Elvis at the end of his life. She's an excellent storyteller. I got so hooked that I finished her book in a couple of days. I'm happy she was able to be there for Elvis during his last 9 months since he seemed to be very lonely and needed her closeness. Too bad she was unable to get him to take better care of himself, but I was glad to know that she tried her best in spite of his temper tantrums when she broached the subject. It's very sad that their time was cut short, especially since they'd just been planning their wedding. It was interesting to read that Elvis was concerned with spiritual matters towards the end and that he spent much of his time studying rather than partying. I especially appreciate Ginger's wanting to set the record straight. She's obviously not just another person attempting to make a buck off of Elivis's fame, or someone who is out to defame him as with others who weren't as ethical or caring as she is. Thanks, Ginger.

Fascinating insight into Elvis’ way of life...

What an interesting insight into Elvis’ life. Ginger was Elvis’ last girlfriend and fiancé. Listen to her tell the story of her courtship and subsequent life, albeit tragically short, with The King Of Rock ‘n’ Roll. And listen to the emotion in her voice as she recounts Elvis’ final hours.
An absolute must for any Elvis fan.

Couldn't switch this off!

I'm a huge Elvis fan. This is the first book that I've read that really paints a picture of the kind, generous, sensitive Person that Elvis was. Not the actor, not the musician but the actual person. At last someone who is not out to make money - Ginger comes across as elegant and truthful. It's so sad that they never had the opportunity to grow old together and Ginger often questions why she met Elvis and they shared happy times, but for too little time. I think Ginger was sent for Elvis to truly love and be loved in his last few months. Ginger was sent to care for him in a way that no one else would. Ginger was sent to listen, talk and pray with Elvis. And finally Ginger was sent to tell the world about the real man that was Elvis Presley.

Feels like you are there

Would you consider the audio edition of Elvis and Ginger to be better than the print version?

I only have the audio version but would like to get the print version too

Any additional comments?

Really enjoyed listening to Ginger tell her story, it was enjoyable, and also extremely moving. She relates the story in such a way that you feel you are right there with her, and can visualize in your mind the places she describes with such detail. I am happy to know that Elvis was wanting to tour, wanting to make changes in his life and was not a man that was on the verge of giving up on life like others have tried to make out, he was looking forward to a future with Ginger. It is a book I will listen to again and again.

I think this is a wonderful insight into a personal love story, Ginger comes across as a lovely person and Elvis was blessed to have such a lady in his life a true heart . Shame she was not treated in the manner Elvis would of wanted after his death .
