Publisher's Summary

Comedians Elis James and John Robins have captured the hearts and minds of a generation, and it's time those hearts and minds had a book.

Elis and John met in 2005 performing stand-up comedy in a pub called The Yellow Kangaroo in Cardiff. They eyed each other suspiciously before Robins offered the limpest handshake in the history of the world.

'It was a power play,' says Robins. 'I may even have raised it for him to kiss.'

James expands: 'It was one of the weirdest things I'd ever experienced, but having known John now for over a decade, it was the tip of the iceberg. I can honestly say he's the oddest man I've ever met.'

Little did they know that 10 years later they would be presenting a radio show together that would make them comedy royalty.... Okay, radio comedy royalty... Okay, commercial digital indie radio royalty... But with a podcast!

Now, The Elis James and John Robins' Show has become cult listening, and that cult has registered for charitable status, published quarterly accounts and been given a full blessing by the Archbishop of Broadcasting. It's official: Elis and John are a religion, and this book is their Holy Vible.

Our obsessions make us what we are, and though you may never have addressed a will to Brian May or cried watching Ronnie O' Sullivan make a 147, you'll have done something similar, and Elis and John are here to tell you that you're not weird, so come on in, and taste the vibe! Or should I say, listen to the vibe!

Critic Reviews

"Elis and John have created the funniest, most original and hilariously personal radio show of the last decade. Which is quite annoying for people like me who have also been trying to be funny on the radio in that time." (Josh Widdicombe)

Too long!

Some funny bits but also some large sections very tedious and dull, mostly the Robins bits unfortunately. He swings from an excellent Partridge impersonator to real bore e.g. Losing strengths of beer at length. Don't think I'm going to reach the end

Meandering Drivel

This is so tedious, I'm really struggling to get through it. A few points of minor amusement, but so far it's been rubbish.

Funny and charming

I really enjoyed this audiobook. As a fan of Elis and John's work I found a lot to like here. However, if you're not familiar with them I would highly recommend giving this a listen. They are funny, charming and have an outlook on life which is us genuinely unique within the comedy world.

I found listening to this book like being in the company of good friends, a genuinely funny and comforting way to spend time.

Anecdotes and Punchlines. It got me on e-mail.

Anecdotes and Punchlines. Filled with stories of shame, regret and welshman's thighs. I've finally joined the revolution that is being on e-mail (you simply have to be these days).

Effortlessly funny

Elis and John compliment each other superbly, the back and forth nature of the book and audio gives a very relaxed conversation vibe.

An enjoyable listen in the background

I'd like to say i'm a great fan of Elis and John, I haven't been to see one of their tours yet but I do like their comedy nonetheless. This is why I was excited to sit down and listen to their joint audio book and it doesn't disappoint in comedic, pub trivia and general knowledge factors. Its a very enjoyable listen to have in the background if you are working. My partner howled from the other room when catching certain bits. The only thing I wish there was more of, was more personal history behind each of the comedians, I know that wasn't the point of the book, but I like Comedians Autobiographies.
