Publisher's summary

Playing music should be as simple and natural as drawing a breath, yet most musicians are hindered by self-consciousness, apprehension, self-doubt, and stress. Before we can truly express our inner self, we must first learn to be at peace and overcome the distractions that can make performance difficult. Kenny's remarkable work deals directly with these hindrances, and presents ways to let our natural creative powers flow freely with minimal stress and effort.

Includes inspiring recordings of meditations designed to initiate positive thought. This book has become a favorite of many musicians who credit it with changing their lives!

"Effortless Mastery is a book that the world really needs. It was not written by a philosopher or an academic. Kenny Werner, is one of my favorite pianists I've ever had the pleasure of working with, and in my opinion one of the best pianists living on the planet. Kenny teaches that 'The joy of practicing is concentration. The joy of playing is liberation.' Effortless Mastery teaches the seeker how to achieve both at the highest levels. It also shows how to practice effectively, promoting real growth and how to play and perform free from fear and self-judgment. I highly recommend this book." (Quincy Jones)

Amazing

Full of great information that I wish I had known a long time ago. The lessons in this book have been immensely helpful for my anxiety around playing.

Profound

This is a must read for most of the musician, particularly those that are spiritual and nature, and might find themselves frustrated in their music from time to time. Some very great advice written in the manner of zen of archery.

I Am a Master; I Am Great

I Am a Master; I Am Great
I Am a Master; I Am Great

I Am a Master; I Am Great

As a beginner, I hope to come back to this book after one, five and ten years, and find renewal. Similar themes as found in Wooten's "The Music Lesson" but without the fantastic trappings.

"just believe you are good at music"

The whole premise of the book is that the difference between average musicians and great ones is that the great ones believe they are great.

The author himself even says he was good at piano at 9 years old without ever trying to be. This book is only for those who have already mastered music and feel limited by their insecurities.

if you do not already possess a great skill in musicianship this book will provide nothing. It is almost entirely a guided meditation reciting mantras that help to silence the inner critic.

I liked the audio book even better than the print!

I read this in print first. Enjoyed hearing the voice, and music in the background. It came off as very reassuring and somehow less idealized and more attainable. Was fun to listen to! Helpful.
