As a beginner, I hope to come back to this book after one, five and ten years, and find renewal. Similar themes as found in Wooten's "The Music Lesson" but without the fantastic trappings.

A dystopian technological thriller

Artificial Wisdom is a murder-mystery, dystopian sci-fi thriller set in the year 2050. The principal character is Marcus Tully, an old-fashioned journalist who still believes in reporting the truth. Tully has a band of misfit followers on his team to help report the truth without compromise. A catastrophic heatwave that killed millions across the Persian Gulf, including Tully’s wife, is the subject of Tully’s latest investigation, and he suspects that the heatwave was diverted from the US by geoengineering. This is set against a pending political contest to be a global dictator involving a former US President and the world’s first AI politician, Soloman, whose message is that he alone can avert a climate apocalypse by making the tough decisions humans are incapable of. Adding to the intrigue is the murder of Soloman’s creator along the way. Beyond its rich cast of characters and twisting plot, the book reflects on many major contemporary issues. These include climate change, AI, political power struggles, the prevalence of conspiracy theories and misinformation propaganda, massive wealth inequality, and their effects on the human condition. Humanity's future and its relationship with technology are at the core of Artificial Wisdom, which is well worth reading for a glimpse into what our future may hold as technology advances for better or worse at an unrelenting pace.
