Publisher's summary

A steamy Regency

He was a duke in disguise. Hiding the truth of his title and wealth to help a friend. Pretending to be nothing more than an itinerant laborer. The last thing he anticipated was saving a comely lass. But then, life has a way of working out. Especially for a duke of the realm.

The woman found him special, despite his supposed common status. For the first time in his life, someone saw the true man, not his title. What would she do if she learned the truth? A fate he was unwilling to risk.

Miss Ann Stafford, the oldest of three sisters, knew life was hard. A country miss with no prospects and little hope. But a strange man, too handsome for his own good. Kind, strong, and interested in her. This was a possibility she had feared would never be hers.

Yet, even though the man had saved her life, there was some hidden secret. Something that kept her at a distance. The question she had to answer was whether she could keep her heart from becoming lost even if she never knew the truth.

Can betrayal and deceit be forgiven? Can two people from different worlds overcome their differences to find true love?

Duke in Disguise

The Fifth Duke of Norwich is tired of his title and the simpering from young ladies that comes with it. When his friend leaves to his remote estate he leaps at the chance to disguise himself as Daniel, a lowly laborer. There he meets Ann, living with her younger sisters in a cottage and immediately admires the spunky miss who spars with him every time they meet. But he keeps his secret from her, and Ann can tell something is amiss.

This was a sweet romance with some slightly steamy scenes and two spunky leads! There was a lot of miscommunication or straight up misleading here, and I wanted to shake Daniel for not coming clean sooner. Ann was head over heels for him and it was refreshing that she was so open. There was no cliffhanger and this can be read as a standalone.

The narration was immersive but I did have to bump it up to 1.35 for it to be a normal pace. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

Enjoyable story, narration ok

G.L. Snodgrass writes stories that sweep you along, making you want to read more. This particular story started sweetly, with love blooming between a farm girl and a laborer. The characters and storyline are well-developed. Very enjoyable read.

The narration was smooth, but was lacking in that I didn’t care for the inflection and some of the British words were mispronounced. Still an ok listen, though I would have preferred a different narrator.

Read the book and you will enjoy this story.

Just ok

I liked the story because it is unusual in Historical Romances to have a Duke marry a commoner. But it felt too long. The narration was probably the reason. It was a bit one dimensional. I would listen to another book by this author.

Don’t Bother

Excellent story potential never brought to fruition. Poor writing and many errors. First of which is that a duke is never addressed as “Lord.” “Your Grace” or “His Grace, the Duke of ..... is correct.

The narrator is American. This would not have been such an issue if she had been able to demonstrate that she could speak with a British accent.
