Publisher's summary

It was supposed to be fun. A mutual use of each other's bodies. To be a ruse to the world around us.

I wanted to be free from my ex, and he wanted to escape his.

One drunken night turned a joke into a life-changing moment.

He warned me not to fall for him, and I should've listened.

He intoxicated me. He made me crave him. He ruined me.

In the end, I'll never be the same.

Oh what a hot little control freak

This story is amazing. I loved the book, but the audio was incredible. I couldn’t recommend a book, or series more.

No mystery, no intrigue, no danger . . .

I was looking for the same level or close to the level of intrigue, danger, mystery that was contained in the other books of the Hope Town series. I accept that not every book needs to follow the same pattern but I was just looking for the bite of danger, mystery, intrigue, and romance all put together the way Harper Sloan does it. She lifts the bar and waves it high. None of this is to say that I did not like the read. I did so much enjoy Shane and Nikki's chance with each other. They both were looking to get rid of an ex that just would not go away.

Shane was dangerous with his leathal body and the sexy hot moves that he displayed in the bar, on the bar, around the bar, but he lacked the confidence in his choice of lady for relationship material. One moment he seems to trust his decision, then he seems to not trust it. I was just wondering when his ex was going to get her's for messing up his head the way she did. Nikki was the glue for it all. She was strong, fierce, determined, and sassy. She could hold her own. She took nothing. She knew when it was time to walk away and allow others to come to the correct conclusion.

Narration was good. I feel that Joe and Shirl added that little extra spice to the read. Their emotion was felt though the audio.

So steamy hot!

This was another favorite. Not without its drama; I mean all good books have it. But their HEA was perfect. Narrators were good too.

great story

i liked that this story really showed the flaws in the characters more than the other books. she had hurts and needs that had to be addressed and he showed his fears eventually. I'm socked the ending didn't include more babies.

Eh

Not as good as the last in the series. I enjoyed it ok, but it was really a struggle to accept that their biggest struggle at the end was that Shane couldn’t accept that she wasn’t jealous of his dancing. Like, really? THAT was the best storyline that could be created for their trouble that they had to overcome. Silly.

Jealous exes romance. 1POV. HEA. Standalone

This romance starts bc two people are trying to get rid of their jealous exes. It’s a “hot damn” novel. It can be read as a standalone but there are other series books before it I gave the narration a four bc shirl Rae’s voice is too nasally for me. But that might just be me. I gave the story a four bc I think the heroine over reacted at the climactic argument at the end of the story. Over all it’s a good listen.

Struggle to finish

I nearly stopped listening to this so many times. It was awful! The characters aren’t that likeable. The story was a carbon copy of every stereotypical light BDSM storyline and character out there, but with none of the spark or build up that makes those stories work.

Did no one else find the female lead to be a bit of a b***h? Starting things with other women to stake her territory when she claims to be ok with the hero’s job. I don’t know what’s going on with all the positive reviews out there.

Shirl Rae has got to be one of the most annoying narrators with her false laughs; and made the female lead sound like even more of a b***hy mean girl strutting around.

I found myself wondering if Joe Arden ever groans and shakes his head at the rubbish he has to narrate to get paid. He’s pretty good in most stories but he had a bad story and weak characters in this case.

I’m sure I enjoyed the Corps Security series, but since I’ve struggled with all of the Hope Town series I wonder if my standards were lower back then because I’d only just started listening to audiobooks, or this series is just much worse.

not for me

Some of the things other reviewers liked i found annoying (the French)
The story wasn't developed enough just lots of sex and hang ups on bad exes.
And Nicky losing her job wasn't a great development either, I felt sorry for her because at the beginning she really sounded like she was into teaching those kids.

Wow

What starts out a s a fake relationship turns very real. This author writes romance very well . You feel the emotions of each character. Love that she includes past book characters.
Narration was awesome too.
