Beautiful

Beautiful story of pain and purpose rooted in biblical truth. Must read for fans of faith-based fantasy.

A wonderfully written story

I loved this book and hope we will get more. I couldn't put it down and tried many different ways to find time to listen.

Fantastical and God-Honoring

The Biblical story this was based on shines through beautifully, but not at all in a way that makes the plot boring and predictable. Hinck reimagines the story as it would have been in a vivid fantasy world, providing a new perspective that draws listeners in and leaves you wondering how the story will unfold.

The relationships that the characters have with the Provider felt so authentic and relatable, and it was a joy to listen as Jolan is gradually drawn nearer to him through the course of the story, learning of his goodness and eventually coming to terms with his purpose for her life. While Jolan and others think and talk about the Provider often, it never feels preachy or forced in. There is only one instance toward the very end where it felt very preachy to me, but it kind of made sense given the context.

There were so many side characters that I loved and even a bit of romance that I wasn’t expecting but thoroughly enjoyed. Hinck did an excellent job of painting her characters as real, living, unique individuals with their own lives and their own goals. The fantasy aspect is also quite vivid, painting the Gifts of the Spirit in a new light while bringing honor to the Giver of those Gifts. I’m definitely planning on listening to this one again someday.

Beautiful and Imaginative

What a wonderful story! I already liked this author but I was even more excited when I saw that Stacy Glemboski was the narrator. This is an unbeatable combination. The story was heart wrenching and hopeful.
