Publisher's summary

Revenge is never as sweet as the ability to find peace.

The honorable Olivia Beaumont, eldest daughter of Viscount Hereford, wants revenge. Following an ill-advised game of faro with a powerful duke, her father lost everything and then suffered a fatal heart attack.

Now, she wants that duke to pay and suffer as much as her father did. But the only way she can do that is to enlist the help of the most shunned man in the ton: the disgraced duke of Skeffington. It matters not that he’s sinfully handsome, for she has a job to do.

Lewis Arthur Sexton is a man beaten down. Stripped of everything following a manufactured scandal against the regent, he now wishes to drown himself at the bottom of a bottle. But when Miss Beaumont pays him a visit with the insane idea of humiliating the man responsible for her pain and his, he might just return to society to honor the request. If he ignores her bewitching attitude and alluring looks, he’ll be fine.

As the scheme is put into play, friendship grows between them. Their fight for revenge is also one for regaining honor in the glittering world of the ton. Yet the moment their relationship transitions into romance, their best-laid plans begin to unravel. When lives are put into jeopardy, they’ll have to decide what they truly want, and if fortune is kind, it might prove to be a happily ever after.

Wonderful!

Sandra has written an exciting and emotional story.
Olivia’s father lost everything to a powerful cruel Duke in a game of faro. Her father died of a heart attack. Olivia sought out the help from Lewis Sexton, Duke of Skeffington to get revenge, but he was trying to drown his sorrows in the bottle. They both were taken by each other’s good looks and attraction for each other. Together they made a hot pair.

predictable but nicely written

the narration was good, I enjoyed her voice and pace. the story was sometimes a bit choppy in terms of character motivation and how they reacted, such as flipping from one train of thought to another within the same paragraph. but overall the writing was well-done and I did like the heroine's strength of will.

disclaimer: I received credit for this book for a fair and honest review.

evil has just deserts

Revenge and greed never end well. I was glad when Olivia saw the light and offered forgiveness instead of revenge. Evil was rewarded with karma. I enjoyed the chance of fortune as it was quite fitting. I enjoyed Lewis and Olivia's story. Good ending. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job bringing it to life.

Dnf even at 1.5. terrible narrator! no producer?

what's going on with the quality of this recording? I'm going to have to return this. I mean the reader made so many mistakes it was like she had never read a book! and do they not have producers that make sure they read the words correctly? she seriously read swig as swing. a swing of brandy! she says byoomont instead of Beaumont for the MAIN CHARACTER'S NAME. And that's not all! she has a pleasant reading voice but who cares when she can't read. All voices are the same. No inflection even for questions. Honestly, libravox is better and it's free! I'm so sorry for Ms Sookoo. I'd be furious to have my name attached to this. I don't even want to rate the story as it might be alright in print. The language and interactions are definitely modern in their vocabulary and mores. but I can usually put up with it. Unfortunately, the narrator ruined any chance of that.
