Publisher's Summary

In the city of Magic's Bend, I protect what's mine. No matter what.

To the world, I'm a just a Conjurer. To my closest friends, I'm a FireSoul - a dangerous Magica with forbidden powers and a dragon's soul. The downside? If anyone discovers what I am, I'm dead. So I lay low, kicking butt with my weapons, not my magic.

Things get ugly when I witness the murder of a powerful vampire ally and become the key suspect. Soon, I'm hunted by the sexiest, strongest supernatural I've ever met. Ares is an unheard of vampire hybrid, and it's hard to say if he wants to kiss me or kill me.

I've got three days to catch the real killer. The bad news? It will take my forbidden magic to succeed. But can I control it, much less keep my secret with Ares watching my every move? Especially when the stakes get ever higher?

I'm used to protecting others...now I have to protect myself.

This is just the start of Pheonix Knight's adventures. This omnibus contains all five books in the Dragon's Gift: The Protector Series.

Amazing Series

Fugitive of Magic - I loved the beginning of Pheonix's Adventures. It kinda sucks that Ares is after her then again it might get even more fun to have him after her. I really enjoyed this new version of Earth. I love Nix's attitude and how her mind seems to work. It's a bit ADD mixed with a female who knows what she wants. I loved Laurel's narration. I've actually heard her before and loved her then too.

Trial by Magic - I loved getting back into the world of Nix. It really sucks that she's got so much going on, but at least she can't say that she's bored. I'm really loving Nix and her back and forth between her and Ares. This is turning out to be a great series and I'll probably have to get the two series before this in the Dragon Gift Universe because of how awesome this series is shaping up to be. Laurel is a great narrator and her voice makes it so amazingly easy to get lost into this world.

Origin of Magic - I loved Nix and Ares in their quest to find out more about the potion for the mysterious beaker. This is another awesome addition to this series with plenty of action and sass. I'm loving following Nix and getting to go along with her to remember her past and figure out her future. This is a really awesome book with a killer cliffhanger of an ending. Ok ok not really a cliffhanger but freaking awesome ending with new info. Laurel did an amazing job and really projected the action and suspense into her voice.

Enemy of Magic - I loved how much action and excitement there was throughout this story. I loved getting more of Draken's big plan and getting to see everyone rally to Nix. This is a really great addition to the series and really makes me excited for the big showdown. Laurel did another amazing job narrating and helped make the story seem like there was no time at all that passed while I was listening.

Forged in Magic - I loved this big showdown. There was so much action and so many awesome things happened that I can't decide what I loved the most about this book. I even enjoyed the different worlds of the gods. This is an epicly awesome action packed end to a great series. Laurel did an amazing job and her voice really added to the drama of the story.

Overall - What I loved most about the series is that at the end there was information about the different myths and legends used and also information about the different historical stuff too.

A great fantasy trip

The age old struggle between good and evil with magic, love, and dragons thrown in. Laurel Schroeder does a great job of voicing the myriad of characters.

The protector complete series

The story line contains some portions of history,, and bits of mythology. The characters are likable and believable. The narrator did a nice job with providing unique voices for each character.

Pookies for the Win

So I listened to the complete Protector Series. A very long listen, but I was enjoying the story and the world that Linsey Hall had built.

But this is Nix's story, and it became evident as I was listening that this wasn't the beginning of the larger story and that the world and many of the characters had already been fleshed out in other books.

The books of this series all seem to follow the same formula. I could see the pattern of strong female characters faced with quests and trials like those out of a video game. Nix apparently cannot go a week without someone testing her worthiness or sending her on an impossible quest. Sucks to be her.

As a side note, there are book series telling the stories of Cas and Del, although I haven't heard or read them, that begin this overall story. And I wasn't at all surprised when at the end I was told there would be books about Bree and Anna.

Anyway, this is your standard urban fantasy with shades of romance. You know the formula – throw two incredibly attractive people together who are on opposite sides of a conflict and sparks are guaranteed to fly. Eventually they will begrudgingly admit that they are made for each other. I'm guessing the same thing happens to Cas and Del.

That said, I like Nix and her supernatural tale of Vampires, Dragons and Old Gods and I'm definitely glad I got to hear her whole story through to the end. My favorite characters, though, are the little dragons from the Vampire Realm. Who doesn't want a couple of Pookie buddies?

The narrator does a good job of embodying Nix's sarcastic nature. However, her narration is an acquired taste, like coffee (which I still don't like). When I first started listening, I was put off by her delivery. She has a weird cadence and some odd inflections. It finally grew on me so that by the time I got to book three, it was normal and I couldn't imagine anyone else as Nix. Although, I must admit that I really hated her Ares voice and still do.

If you're a fan of strong women in impossible situations, then give this series a try. And give Laurel Schroeder's narration some time to grow on you. You may end up enjoying the ride as much as I did.

And as a final note, it's way too convenient that the main character's full name is Phoenix.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Please have someone else narrate!!!

I would like my credit back. I have no idea if the story was good, the narration was so awful I could NOT get past the 10 minute mark. I tried 3 times and only made it that far. It was like listening to Napoleon Dynamite act like a valley girl, but every word breathy. What a waste of a credit, I will be avoiding all books read by Laurel Schroeder.

Fun and action packed! Loved it!

Super fun series! Tons of action and adventure! Plus, the women kick some major butt! Lots of cool magic and magical powers! I listened to the audio for the boxset, and the narrator does a great job. She has a lot of voices to do, and she does them all well. I enjoyed her performance. I loved listening to all 5 books one right after the other. Totally great deal for 1 Audible credit! These 5 books are from Nix's POV. I'd recommend reading both Cass' and Del's book series before this one, so you'll have the full story. The 3 are sisters by choice; they were kidnapped together when they were teens and escaped with their memories missing. Their story starts in Cass' 5 book series, then on to Del's 5 books, so it's good to start at the beginning. There's not a lot of depth to the characters in this series, but I still like them all. This series focuses more on the adventures that the sisters have. I find all of the action very entertaining and fun. There's is some light romance, which I do like the pairing of Nix and Ares, but I would've liked a bit more. Fun conclusion to the sister's story! For Nix's last book and the conclusion, I would've loved to have more of each sister's lives. Overall, it was an awesome read! All 15 books were very entertaining! Looking forward to more books by Linsey Hall!

Nix's turn to come into her power

Laurel returns to bring Nix and our crew to life for us. When the characters sound short of breath, so does Laurel. I enjoy these little actions added to narrators, it makes the book feel alive in audio. I enjoy the way Laurel bring the characters to life by sounding as they are actually living through the events written. Laurel has done a great job at voicing accents and personalities for the characters. We even cross a few ghosts and the feel of the creepy described is in Laurel's voice. Great addition to the world.

All of the deirfiur have to go through trials of their own, to learn their abilities and grow into their part for the ultimate end goal. Nix has her journey here. Nix learns more about herself and her powers. She even learns of something she didn't know she had. But Nix also gains a strong ally group and a close friend.

I like Nix because she's not all power. Nix thinks she's not powerful in magic with the ability she has, conjuring. But Nix is stronger in other ways. Nix has a hidden power she didn't realize she had, which is very neat. I like this magic, and it fits her and her life. Nix is quick to learn and control her new magics. She doesn't like the one power she absorbed in the previous book, but it's the opposite yet the same as what she possesses and is needed for her rule in what's to come for the trio of ladies.

I have loved the growth of Nix and Ares's relationship throughout Nix's series of books. They are an amazing pair. And Ares has no problems stepping back and letting Nix be in the lead. Ares feels like a perfect match for Nix.

Nix's story is about her, but I get a sense it's more too. Nix learns about herself, past and powers, but she's also learning what's in store for her deifiur. This makes the story feel deeper for me. I love that there feels to be two fold in the story line. We start to see the connection to dragons as well. I feel as though we are leading to more with the three girls as well. They are all key in something more, which we know of but we get the feel as we are getting closer to that 'something', what they are fated to do.

We learn about dragons and their history. Then about FireSouls. And, this leads to our ladies and their connection to things. Nix's journey feels like it's one of the most important, maybe because of who she is or maybe because she's the last of the three to come into her powers. But this is the series that feels to highlight all three of the ladies along with what they are.

Pheonix Knight

The first few lines of the blurb for this collection are:-

To the world, I'm a just a Conjurer. To my closest friends, I'm a FireSoul--a dangerous Magica with forbidden powers and a dragon's soul. The downside? If anyone discovers what I am, I'm dead. So I lay low, kicking butt with my weapons, not my magic.

That was enough to make me want to listen to this story, what I failed to notice was that it was going to take me 31 hours to listen to it all! But whatever you do don't let that put you off! This story is so very good, so much action and adventure, so many interesting characters and such wonderful friendships.

Nix (Pheonix) has no memories of her early childhood, the first memories she has are of being the prisoner of someone she thinks of as the monster who tried to force her to use her Firesole Magic. Whilst there she meets the two people she considers her sisters and together they escape. Now, adults, these three Firesoles live in close proximity and work together in their shop selling magical artifacts.

The collection is actually five books which are all good, they have one theme running through them all in that Nix must defeat an enemy so powerful he could end all the magic in the world. Although there is lots of action and excitement I would say that the story could be enjoyed in the same way you can enjoy Harry Potter. I would certainly allow any child of mine to read them - it is, in my opinion, a series deserving of a PG rating. That said if you love magical stories you will love these.

It was my intention to listen to a book, take a break then listen to another and so on but once I started listening I had to finish all five books they were just that compelling.

The narration by Laurel Schroeder is excellent, she managed to bring every single character to life and with so many characters involved that was no easy feat!

This is the first book by Linsey Hall I have read or listened to and I found the writing style to be fast paced with attention to detail, I loved the amount of detail given to both the characters and the locations. Also, I think there must have been a lot of research put in by this talented author when it came to the mythology used within these books.

I was given this audio collection as a gift and this review is written voluntarily.

Pooly written but good concept.

The Narrator/reader did a great job. Shr stayed in character and accents.

The book itself is poor. I dont want to go back and count how many "fast and true" statments there were. I also dont think listeners are so stupid the same thing needs to be repeated within 5 sentences. The vocabulary was limited. Having to have 5+ worthiness challenge to create tention was not necessary which two were in the Vampire realm. I finished the book series seem to end abruptly. Just shouldnt have gotten it.
