A fun adventure.

The Narrator transports you to this world created by an Author that has written an interesting creative story with a good sense
of humor.

Since this is a Audio Book the performance is the most important factor and with a variety of accents and a good understanding
of the material delivers on all counts.

Like Action, adventure, and dragons? Then lissenup

A fun adventure that is long enough to satisfy, and short enough that you can enjoy all in one go if you are so inclined. I got this book, due to the awesomeness that was Price's Crimson Claymore, and was happy that I continued to listen to more of his stuff. He is one heck of a writer; he knows how to craft a story, create down to earth characters, and keep your attention.

The very first thing I am going to comment on is that I absolutely adore this cover. For me, it looks like a throwback to the days when Larry Elmore painted 90% of TSR's stuff. That cat could paint a dragon. Here the dragon is not cartoonish, and carries the look of a real threat. It oozes menace, and anyone shopping for a new fantasy novel would stop to check the book out. I actually wish he had used this kind of art on the Crimson Claymore. Great story, but mediocre cover at best. This cover shouts READ ME!!!! so, excellent choice.

Next the narration; Corbett is a narrator I have not heard before, but this dude has some serious pipes. His voice is gripping, it grabs you by the lapels and pulls you in close so that you don't miss a thing. His characterizations, accents, and performance are at level 8 or 9. I really need to hear more from him before I can really say that he is one of those guys that he's got real staying power. Looks like he's done about 7 books so far, so this clearly isn't his first rodeo. I look for more big things from him.

Price pieces together a gripping story that starts at just the right spot. We enter as a village is being destroyed for its connection to the resistance. The band that we follow is small, just three people, and each plays an integral role in the story. Devarius, Aquila and Paden (not sure how to spell since this is audible) flee with other survivors, and begin to actually search for real resistance members so that they can fight back. The story is tight, perfectly paced, and holds your attention like a clock that is counting down for you to win a million dollars. I think I have found a new writer to keep an eye on, as his first book was really good, and now this one proves that Price was not a one hit wonder. I know look forward to the audible release of The Obsidian Arrow, book two of the Crimson Claymore series, and Dragonia: Revenge of the Dragons, book two of this series. Do not miss out on a wonderful author and his amazing stories. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

A fast-paced start to a fun-looking series

I really liked this. The author wasted no time getting into the story, and never let up the pace. The characters were likeable, the plot was solid and there was plenty of humour. There was a ton of dialogue, which is usually good news for audio books, and the narrator nailed his part of the deal with a variety of accents, and keeping the story flowing. An excellent listen for an audio book.

Fun Adventure with Dragons and Wyverns

This was a fun story. It begins with Devarius and a small group of fellow survivors on the run after their village was destroyed by dragon riders. The Dragonia Empire was trying to make an example of a village that housed members of the resistance but didn't count on having anyone escape to tell the tale. It's even more problematic when we learn that no one in the village was actually a part of the resistance - the village was scapegoated as part of a much larger plan to strike fear in the hearts of anyone who dared consider resisting. Devarius and company decide to join the resistance because it is the only option left to them. Epic fail on the part of the empire. The first half of the book involves them constantly running and hiding and getting caught and almost getting caught and escaping and being betrayed. Fun! The second half of the book is all about training with the resistance and trying to find a way to beat the empire at it's own game. Along the way, they discover an as-yet-undiscovered island filled with wyverns. Can they be trained and help in the fight against the empire? (Yes, they can.)

I enjoyed the story and the pacing and most of the characters, however, there were a few issues. First, racism was acknowledged at the very beginning of the story, then it didn't impact the story in any way. So why was it brought up in the first place? Second, the treatment of women was annoying. Aquila sounded pretty awesome. She and Devarius had been best friends forever. They had been secretly in love with each other forever. But he wouldn't tell her because he thought she deserved better, then it turned out that she deserved better because he was going to leave to find her sister and this reflects badly on him and his character how? Also, he wouldn't allow her to fight alongside him because he would be too worried about her to focus. Dude, get over yourself! You are vastly outnumbered and need all the help you can get. I kept waiting for her to pull an Eowyn and join the battle anyway. Oh well, maybe next book. But yeah, I'm hooked. I'll keep reading.

I received a free copy of the audiobook from the author and have reviewed it willingly. The narration was superb. I'll listen to Reuben Corbett any time.

Pretty good for a first book

This is definitely a ground laying book. You need a lot of background to fully appreciate what’s happening. I found rise of the Wyverns enjoyable overall.

I feel like it could have been more engaging but liked the story enough that I’ll take a shot at the second book.

Parents: no bad language, few suggestive scenes (nothing past kissing or string suggestions). There are battle scenes which as a movie would probably be PG13 even with all of the described gore... maybe R since there are a few decapitations.

Overall enjoyable, written for a more mature audience... this isn’t Eragon people.

Fast-moving tale!

Another dragon tale! I love a good dragon story. This time the dragons are on the side of the evil empire known as Dragonia. Collecting excessive taxes, killing townsfolk and farmers seem to be the empire’s hobby. Our MC Devarius has lost his family and farm to the dragon riders of Dragonia. Gathering as many survivors as possible, Devarius escapes into the forest. Rumors of the resistance have been around for decades. Devarius along with the survivors decide to find and join the resistance. This is a pretty good story that moves very quickly. It is clear that the main plotline will be the resistance against the evil empire of Dragonia. If and how they accomplish this may rest with the title of this volume. My only wish is that the volumes were longer. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Volume 1

The plot is about 3 friends who along with a group of people escape the massacre of a village thought to contain resistance fighters against the Dragon empire. Lots of action and excitement.

Dragonia 1

I enjoyed this book.It is a straightforward adventure with the evil horde wiping out villages and a resistance to it.I was impressed with the narration by Reuben Corbett. The language is basically modern and his voices are very good, even with a bit of 'Thurston Howell the third' tossed in.lol I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.

loved it and brilliant narrator

YAAAAAAAAY dragons......oh...um...hang on a minute hmmmmm. I loved this book, I wasn't quite sure what the story was going to be but I got sucked in and it carried me all the way through. The narrator is brilliant, and I could tell who was who just by the voice used. It's a rather unusual story in my opinion in who the good guys turn out to be....but that made it all the more enjoyable as it progressed. I can't wait for the next book...

Gimmi Gimmi Gimmi MORE

I love an epic and this has all the hallmarks of an epic worth joining the best.
Daring to resist the oppressive dragon riders, wells some choose to but most are forced to, This great introduction to this superb new world, filled with believable characters not the usual indestructible hero we become used to.
Written very well allowing us to create with the Authors Craig A. Price Jr, help the world within, then through the narration of Reuben Corbett.we are seduced into its believable existence.
A truly great start my only gripe, is I wanted ALL volumes as I am such a binge reader.

I really like the characters,

Very well written, realistic book. Reuben Corbett gives a really good performance on this narration. All of his characters have distinct voices and his female voices are believable. He makes a really good Devarius and I loved his impish Paedyn.
