Publisher's Summary

This academy’s about to go up in flames.

I’m Sorcha McMurphy. I thought magic didn’t exist until I found a stolen dragon hatchling and got a letter of acceptance to a supernatural school for dragon riders.

I’m literally flown away to a college that teaches sword fighting, magic casting, and general ass-kicking. Here, the dragon clans are at war, and there’s an evil that threatens to destroy the riders forever.

They think I’m the chosen one destined to save the clans, but I’m no hero. If only I could stop myself from loving the cursed guy in my dragon keeping class long enough to save the world.

Dragon Academy is a magic academy YA/NA paranormal fantasy novel. Contains one strong heroine, one smoking-hot book boyfriend, and a plethora of dragons you won’t be able to get enough of! Eragon meets Harry Potter in this fiery fantasy series.

Dragons!!!!

I loved how this book portrayed dragons and their world. The dragons were so cute and each one had their own personality. I want to know more about the different clans and why they have the views they do. Sorcha was an interesting character who was from this world but didn’t remember any of it. I liked learning about the magic was a lot of fun and I absolutely loved the accents the narrator used for the different characters it added so much more to my enjoyment. Especially Oliver’s accent. I hope in the next books to see more of him and learn about Sorcha’s friends and of course their dragons. Sorcha is the chosen one and has a lot of choices to make. Not everyone will like the ones she makes. I want to know what will happen next in this world. There is a lot more about this world I want to know as well and about dragons.

A great read for dragon lovers

I enjoyed the story a lot. The lead was a fun character and her journey in finding who she was and the world of dragons was a fun and amusing story.
If you like dragons and academy style books this is your read.
The narration was good, I liked that there was a male narrator for those parts that needed a guys voice it helped a lot. And the accents were fun!

So Much Potential!

I would love to give this audio book 5 stars straight across- but I just can’t. I did love the story and the characters- the narrator had great voices for each one- but the main character’s voice tended to change. I loved her enthusiasm- but sometimes it was just.. too much. It didn’t match the situation. I found several errors- repeated sentences and at times I could definitely tell where she cut off recording and started again. But overall I really did like this book. The author built a great world and plot line- and characters and dragons that stand out in their own personalities. Sorcha- pulled form the human world with no memory of her past fated to save the entire magical race. Falling for Oliver, the boy from the wrong clan she can never have.. With more practice and editing- I see this narrator becoming really great!

An amazing ride!

Love the narrator! She is my new favorite. I loved her feelings and expressions through the entire book.

Minor plot spoilers ahead.

There were so many feelings during this book. I really felt pulled in! When she left him in the woods I was like Noooo! Don't leave. But was happy how it all ended. There were so many things that I did not see coming and really liked how everything happened. Finding out who her sister was and then why she didn't remember. I really think there is a bigger plot point to this and think it has to do with the shadow riders but I need to know. hoping it is in the next book!

The romance was kinda weird. She seemed very mature but the relationship building seemed alot more innocent than what Sorchas inner thoughts portrayed.

That ending! I really do understand why it ended that way. And if she would have killed then it would have basically would have thrown everything she said earlier in the book out. I do wonder if that was the reason she needed to not have her memories. A blank slate.

The fight at the end was great and really glad the thing broke because that would have just been too easy. And how the evil dragon reacted to her rider after his actions makes me think that things will turn around and things will with baby dragons and rainbows.

A VERY GOOD LISTEN. FUNNY THROUGH OUT AND VERY INTERESTING. COMICAL DRAMATIC ADVENTURE. ACCEPTABLE FOR A MORE MATURE AUDIENCE. FULL OF INNUENDO AND SENSUAL DEPICTION. NARRATORS IS GREAT AND EASY TO FOLLOW.

Holy Dragons Batman!

This book was awesome! It had me hooked from chapter one. Loved Sorcha, the FMC! She is spunky and determined to do what is right for the dragons and their riders. Really enjoyed this book! Can't wait to see what Sorcha will do next.

Cute, Fun, Entertaining!

I realize that I'm not the target audience for this book but I am kind of a sucker for YA/Adult escapist fiction, especially if it's supernatural or romantic in any way. My favorite types of stories are often set in a rich fantasy world, or our world but "different" and I thought that this sounded like a fun short listen that I could get through in a few days. I ended up listening to the entire thing in one night. The dragons are just oh so cute. I love the personalities and the world. I read some of the reviews talking about "ripping off" Harry Potter... Harry Potter is a ripoff of so many other things. That's just what writing is. You rip off ideas and twist them around like a ball of yarn and untangle them, then knit them into something that's your own. I think this book was very cute, and fun. It was a YA book. Not a contemporary fantasy... so I don't know what people expect. I am not going to comment on literary shortcomings or cliches or whatever, because this is again a YA novel and I expect that. One of my favorite book series is TOG, and it's full of similar tropes. i really liked Oliver a lot, he was my favorite character by far in the book, I want to know more about him. highly enjoyed the narration. Great performance. The cover is what sold me here because it was quite flashy and I know you aren't supposed to judge a book by its cover but when I played the sample I couldn't help but to use a precious credit.

Narrator was great.. Story was really bad.

I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did. There were some things I loved (the dragons and the world) and somethings I didn't love (like the main character, and so that is why I am giving this a lower rating...) I liked it enough to finish it, and I wanted to see what happened, however I really hated quite a few things here. Namely, I disliked the main character. A lot. She was unsympathetic, naturally good at everything and of course I expected nothing less, but I like twists in my fiction or a bit of unpredictability and sadly I saw the twists coming a mile away. It's not interesting to have a character instantly be good at everything.......... SPOILERS AHEAD ...

I am really displeased that the bad guy was evil just "BECAUSE" and especially the turn at the end where he randomly tries to kill Torren? Like why? And I was disappointed with how mad Sorsha(sp?) gets at Oliver, because if she was in his position she would do the same thing to save her own dragon. She's thirsty as hell and basically objectifies him ALL the time, and it made me feel weird - imagine if a male character talked about a female that way? I mean this was extreme. Lines like "I'm so wet" just kinda gross for a YA novel.

With that said, the narrator was AMAZING. Her voice reminds me a lot of Jeorjeana Marie and I can't help but wonder if maybe this is a different stage name for that narrator. Something about it is really familiar. Anyway, I listened until the end. I think I'd read the next book just because the voices were pretty entertaining and I finished it in a day. I don't understand the reviews she has a nasally voice or was "awful" at doing male voices. She's great. She sounds young and she does an amazing job with tons of accents, (American, Irish or Celtic, British, whatever) and her male voices are great (especially the male love interest!) She had a different voice/personality for every character.

I really wish Sorsha's sister was in the book more because I really liked her relationship with her sister but again I didn't really understand the reason that she would employ her own sister and keep it a secret while letting her be abused.. yeah very much a rip off of Harry Potter. I also laughed so hard during the first confrontation with Sorsha's adopted family that I cried because they were just mean for the reason of being mean instead of actually disliking her for a reason. White Oleander has abusive foster parents portrayed accurately and I dunno. This was a guilty pleasure I guess... Like putting on a Justin Bieber song and dancing alone in your room.

Definitely NA - good academy-style book

Due to the language which was fine for me - I would say this is a good NA paranormal romance for dragons and riders alike. Sorcha and Oliver's story leads a trail of breadcrumbs to book 2 which I confident you will be curious enough to pursue. Narration was mostly fine.

Definitely one for young teens

So many inclusions of memorable things from other stories. If you have not read many fantasy books then this will be good.

Narration was a performance, I found this annoying as I wanted the book read to me not acted out. Listening through headphones you really notice someone talking loudly then quiet and it's hard to know who to adjust the setting for. Some lines were repeated and you could hear other things picked up by the recording machine.

An Exciting Read,Focused On Friendship & Bonds!😍

Dragon Academy: Dragon Riders Academy, Book 1
Audiobook – Unabridged 🎧
A.K. Thorne (Author)
Kim Reiko (Narrator)
Gryfyn Publishing (Publisher)

Sorcha is living with vile, abusive Foster Parents because of being in a car accident that cost her her real Parents & all of her memories!!💔😭 She's desperately squirrelling away all the money she earns at her coffee shop job to attend Nursing School, she can't wait to get away from the spiteful & neglectful couple! While at work with the owner & her one true friend, she goes into the basement to get napkins & finds the most bazaar thing - A baby Dragon!🐉😍 She thinks she's losing her mind.😵 He's so cute though & she feels such an instant bond with him, he snuggles into her arms & licks her face like he loves her already!😍🙏💜

Over the next couple of days her life changes drastically. She helps heal someone that would've died from a brutal murder. Then she receives a letter telling her she's expected to start at 'Dracon Academy' with her Dragon, in a couple of days, to start her training as a Dragon Rider!!😱 It doesn't have any other information though so she still plans to go to Nursing School, that is until a huge, raging storm rolls in. She's been staying at her bosses apartment when she hears a crash downstairs & goes to investigate, she's attacked!😳😡 They throw the bag she's got Toryn, her Dragon, hidden in across the room, grab her hair & smack her in the face!😳 Its her Foster Parents 😟😥 They're mad because she hasn't been home & her housework is piling up, like she's their darn slave or something!!😡 When she fights back the beating gets out of hand, the door crashes open & her boss screams at them - Get your hands off of my sister!!😱 Aisling gets them out of there & takes her to small cottage, grabs her hand & tells her not to let go then drags her with Toryn in to a painting.🙈💥

On emerging she finally fills Sorcha in. They're not from Earth, they're from a Dragon Rider Clan & an Evil Rider is after Sorcha. It's believed she's the prophesied return of the great Mother Of All Dragon's who is the only one who can save them from the greatest evil they'll ever face - the guy who wants her dead!!😱😵💥 She left their world for their protection & hers and insisted they wipe her memories so she couldn't risk them, now it's time for her to return & train so she can beat the bad guys & oh yeah, her Parents might still be alive!🙏💕 It seems too incredible & too much.

From stepping into the pool that shows your power, at the Academy, everyone knows who is. She's watched, talked about & judged!😕 Nothing is really what she thought it would be.

This is a lively, often fun and fast paced read. I thought the Narrator did a good job, she kept it interesting & had a good variation of character voices.👍 I found Sorcha a bit annoying at times. Oliver & Ember were interesting, he was especially intriguing!😍 Above all I adored the Dragon's!💙💖✨
Definitely worth a read/listen!🎧 A 4.25 Star Read🌟
