Publisher's Summary

Before becoming a best-selling author, Glenn Langohr was a prisoner on drug charges. To survive gang wars, guards who incite riots, and racial segregation where every inch of space is fought over, he took over as a shot caller.

There is a niche for specific readers.

I was not able to finish this book which is rare for me. I won't bash someone who puts themselves outhere. To me it seems like a crash course in mens prison slang, life and the groups and hierarchy of the life in prison. It's very choppy and does not flow smoothly. The only reason I couldn't finish the audible version is because the audio recording was horrible. The flow isn't there. I do think for anyone not familiar with the crap of the U.S. prison system and the subculture that may have someone locked up this may be enlightening. I think that eventually I will finish it on my kindle and forego the audible version it sounds like Langohr is in a segregation visitors room of prison on a telephone reading into a tape recorder. I can hear the passion in his reading of his own memoir but it probably would of been better to have someone narrate the book for him to eliminate the underlying emotion that is evident in the inflection of his story, specific topics and thoughts. That said researching his work before writing this he has a collection of works out there I may read into more and they may be beneficial to persons incarcerated or coping with living outside prison. I won't write this book off but set aside.

Real stuff right here

A good view into the prison politics of the California prison industrial complex it's a good read but not for the faint of heart as the author keeps raw and gritty!

Great story read by the author.

Exceptionally well written. I enjoyed this book and it's gritty subject matter. It's a non flinching and realistic account of life on the inside I reccomend the entire series. A very hard book to put down or stop listening to as an audio book.

Way better than I expected...

This kinda blew me away. Well-written, wild stuff, and you'll believe every second of it. Very, very compelling. Bravo!

insightful prison book

a real life look into prison life. sometimes the narration was monotone but was still good especially with the different characters. exciting and interesting look of how prison guards and races operate in the penal system.

Useless prison war stories.

Over the top prison war stories. In love with the word VESTIBULE. White trash. Very poorly written. Uneducated. How did he become an author?
