Publisher's summary

It's 1940 - France has fallen, and Britain stands alone against the might of the German war machine; a fierce battle for supremacy of the air rages in the skies as the Battle of Britain hits full stride.

For Chief Inspector Frank Parade and his much-depleted team, there are many challenges to policing the small Welsh mining village of Gilfach Goch, for while miles away from the theatres of war, the home front faces unique challenges of its own. The wartime demands thrown on the country mean that each officer in Parade’s team must do the work of two men - three even.

Soon, the already overwhelming workload is increased when not one, but two bodies turn up, and Parade finds himself having to investigate two murders as well as cope with everything else thrown his way.

Great Listen!

Not usually a genre I'm drawn to, but this one is very well written and had me hooked in the first Chapter or so.
Not to mention, I could listen to this narrator's voice for hours happily. Completely transported!

Crime does not pay

This book is what the old crime novels were all about, reminded me of the Sherlock Holmes mystery stories. Exceptional story and I loved the narrator, super. Thank you

A Classic Sherlock Holme style story

I thought it was a classic Detective tale with the addition of the drama on people living in an area during a war.
The Narrator had the perfect voice for this type of book.

LOVED IT!

What’s not to love. A historical crime story about a detective trying to solve two separate murders in one small village during World War II. Between Artful Dodger and the Germans bombing local pubs. Sergeant parade has his hands full. A widow is dad AN three months pregnant yet no one knows of her having a male friend. A high-level coworker gets his facemask then and nobody even remember seeing him. Will sergeant parade and Lieutenant Llewellyn be able to solve the crimes.

I hope they have a book too. I love Lieutenant parade and his sidekick Sergeant Llewellyn. The author wrote them to be a little different but a lot like everyone else. Just normal people trying to make it through World War II. I loved it, I loved Aubrey Parsons now ration he is one of my favorites. I recommend this book to anyone who likes crime, not to mention history because they have it weed throughout the story. True history in a fictional story I love that. Did I mention I love this book. You will too!
