Publisher's summary

Between getting into a tangle with a corrupt local judge and discovering a disturbing black-market business, Dr. Siri and his friend Inspector Phosy have their hands full in the 13th installment of Colin Cotterill's quirky, critically acclaimed series.

Dr. Siri Paiboun, the ex-national coroner of Laos, may have more experience dissecting bodies than making art, but when he manages to smuggle a fancy movie camera into the country he devises a plan to shoot a Lao adaptation of War and Peace with his friend Civilai. The only problem? The Ministry of Culture must approve the script before they can get rolling. That and they can't figure out how to turn on the camera.

Meanwhile, the skeleton of a woman has appeared under the Anusawari Arch in the middle of the night. Siri puts his directorial debut on hold and assists his friend, the newly promoted Senior Police Inspector Phosy Vongvichai, with the ensuing investigation. Though the death of the unknown woman seems to be recent, the flesh on her corpse has been picked off in places as if something - or someone - has been gnawing on the bones. The plot Phosy soon uncovers involves much more than single set of skeletal remains.

Another great one

Such a great story and so perfectly read. Loved every minute. I’ve learned so much of Laotian history, as well.

The best Dr. Siri yet!

I tried the first in the series simply because it was a mystery & was included with my membership. After that I was hooked, and listened to one after another. It's a series best listened to in sequence, watching the characters grow and evolve. There's much dry wit, and a 5-star narration as the story lines converge & mysteries are solved. The character development is wonderful, bringing these wonderful people into our minds and hearts forever. As a bonus, we're given a history of the 1970s post-war era from the prospective of the countries where it was waged, and a chance to get to know their inhabitants as people rather than combatants. I love these books!

One of the best for Mr Cotterill

An exciting chapter in what one always hopes will be an ongoing adventure. The social critique is mordant- see E Warren End Corruption 🙏

Dr. Siri Paiboun my love

This series of books is one of the best I have ever experienced. The writer has captured humanity at its finest and at its worst but in the most beautiful way. You will fall in love with Dr. Siri and his band of friends as they grow and learn to navigate life and adventures together, solve crimes, and enlighten themselves and the reader. I am in love with Dr. Siri the ancient pathologist-crime fighter. We should all aspire to be so wonderful. Thank you to Colin Cotterill for sharing your friends with us.

Listened again

Dr. Siri is one of my absolute favorites, so, much as I hate reruns, I can enjoy replaying books that I really enjoy. However, while earlier books in the series were usually quite entertaining, this one was unexpectedly horrifying. I'm sure Colin gathered his background info from real life, and that would certainly depress me to the point of writing a certainly depressing book, were I an author. Poor Colin. I'm sure it's less ugly to read about such things rather than see them in real life. Preferring to keep my head in the sand most of the time, I probably would have bypassed replaying this one, had I not forgotten the gory details.

Anyway, it's my argument against censorship that we must know about the evils of the world if we hope to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Cruelty to animals still goes on, perpetrated inexplicably by people who for some reason think humans are superior to all other life forms and therefore entitled to use them in any nasty way they wish. As for me, I need to go take a pill and lie down with a cold compress. Please support ASPCA, Humane Society local and International, Soi Dog, IFAW, NRDC, Oceana, Union of Concerned Scientists, Wildearth Guardians, Center for Biological Diversity, Friends of the Earth, water for desert animals (that's an Arizona thing), and any other organization that you can find doing good works for the "lessers."

Dr Siri Paiboun series, book 13

Don't Eat Me is book 13 in the Dr Siri Paiboun mystery series - a fun, quirky crime series set in Laos.

An unknown woman’s skeleton is discovered in a very open area, on a reasonably busy street - as if she were meant to be found. What makes this skeleton especially unusual, other than the obvious, is that the skeleton shows signs of having been gnawed to the bone. During the investigation into the skeleton, a black market business in the animal trade is uncovered,

Rather than delegate the case, newly promoted Senior Police Inspector Phosey Vongvichai chooses to handle this case himself. With the assistance of his friends, including newly-retired national coroner Dr Siri Paiboun and members of his former staff, Phosey attempts to unravel the mystery. What none of them could possibly know is that there are forces working to ensure the investigations failure.
"A thousand ants could move a tree branch, but none would attempt it alone.”

I have read the entire series on audiobooks, and have enjoyed every one. Don’t Eat Me has been one of my favorites as it takes some unusual turns and offers a unique ending. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Never Get Enough

I find Mr. Cotterill's Dr. Siri Paiboun series to be one of the most entertaining and well-written series that I have had the pleasure of listening to. I am completely amazed by the various bit and pieces of the story that takes place in various locations and those pieces are collected and brought together by various characters to solve the crime(s).
