CWA Gold and Steel Dagger-winner Mick Herron’s short fiction, collected for the first time.

Mick Herron, author of the Slough House novels, is on his way to becoming one of the most critically acclaimed and culturally important crime fiction writers of the 21st century. He has been awarded both the Gold and Steel Daggers by the Crime Writers’ Association and has been called “the John Le Carré of the future” (BBC). But Mick Herron does more than “just” write flawlessly suspenseful spy thrillers. He is a craftist of the highest order, irrepressibly versatile in form (novels, novellas, short fiction) and mood (witty, taut, spooky, laugh-out-loud funny), whose “efficient, darkly witty, tipped-with-imagery sentences...feel purpose-built to perforate [our] private daze of illiteracy” (The Atlantic).

Now, for the first time, Herron’s short fiction has been collected into one volume. In Dolphin Junction, devoted fans and future converts alike will find much to amuse, delight, and terrify them. Five stand-alone nerve-racking and thrilling crime fiction stories are complemented by four mystery stories featuring the Oxford wife-and-husband detective team of shrewd Zoë Boehm and hapless Joe Silvermann. The collection also includes a peek into the past of Jackson Lamb, irascible top agent at Slough House.

Love his work, but these were just ok. Some predictable some confusing. The older female narrator sounds like she's on oxygen.

My favorite stories were about Joe the Private eye. The narrator made Herron’s hilarious writing come across so well !

Need more Joe Silverman!! :-)

A wonderfully inventive stories, varied yet also familiar if you've listened to other stories by Mick Herron. Great readers who did the stories justice. Mick Herron is a terrific writer.

Terrific

The stories that do not involve Slough House or Zoe Boehm are a considerable drop down.

Slough house and Zoe Boehm stories are good

It’s great to Jackson Lamb here. Most of the are predictable and you can see the twist coming but the writing style is compelling. Zoe and Jim stories are well fleshed out but the narrator’s voice is pretty off putting and I ended up skipping stories voiced by that particular narrator.

Ok but nowhere near Slough House standard

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Enormously entertaining tales with generous doses of mystery, sardonic humor and horror. Expertly plotted with clever twists.

Wicked treats

Very different from the Slough House stories, some a bit dull and some excellent with one really good horror tale. Different readers for each, most easy to listen to.

Interesting stories

Enjoyed short stories especially title story. Jackson Lamb is in character. Recommend the book for all.

Herron excels.

Normally I do not read short stories but this volume contains backstory for Jackson Lamb. I was lost with the remaining stories without any context or reference to the story.

More Jackson Lamb
